THE GAMBHIR KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOUR !
by damodaran mohan on Jun 02, 2014 04:08 PM  | Hide replies

Absolutely.Gambhir is right that after the initial series of losses mid-way through the series Robin Uthappa’s return to form marked the turn around for KKR. Useful contributions from likes of Shakib and Sunil Narain with Pathan, Manish Pandey etc. too joining the party towards the end stages charted the important success story. But Gambhir too played his part as a player and as cap by taking tough decisions and responsibility as needed w/o which such turn around would not have been possible. Now KKR equals CSK’s record of two wins in IPL and so comparison with Dhoni’s somewhat downturn in the current captaincy run becomes inevitable given that ‘magic touch ‘ and the decisive ‘finisher’ role of the latter having gone missing of late.. May be in the CL matches we would get more opportunities for the comparisons. Further, with G’s inclusion in the Eng tour Dhoni’s cap skills could be put to ultimate test! Coming to Punjab , it must have been a real heartbreak given that they were expected to have an edge at Bangaluru’s batting wkt. It was sad that after topping the table all through they failed to cross the last hurdle to clinch their 1st IPL title. Somehow cap George Bailey’s moves on the day did not click. Pace bowlers failed miserably with experienced Balaji’s slow bouncers not producing desired results. Even WS’s best ever century knock went in vain! But still Punjab can be proud of the

Match was fixed in different way. How Punjab will include awanna instead of Sandeep Sharma in their squade.Even awanna should not be there in qualifying round also. Even they Punjabi defeat Kolkata knight riders in Qualifying round if they drop awanna from their bowling department. Similarly Chennai Meccullum intention was to run out their own team 2-3 players. IPL should be proper and transparatent and not as per whims and fancy to promoter of the company.

sandeep sharma had been blown away by raina in the previous match...so his selection was not by default.

"That is not the point why Sandeep was dropped. Even Awana was hit by Raina in that match but they continued with him for no reason. Awana is not at all a quality bowler at all. Same is Karanveer Singh. Instead they should have chosen Rishi Dhavan who could bat too"

slap to dhoni
by Kutty on Jun 02, 2014 08:55 AM  | Hide replies

2012 gambhir defeated dhoni
2013 rohit sharma defeated dhoni
2014 gambhir and sehwag both defeated dhoni

dhoni ran away down the order when he knew chasing 226 was tough. typical selfish game playing to just retain his average and being not out. he opened up only when he knew that csk can never win but he can make some brownie points by staying not out.

dhoni is the best finisher yes. because he finished csk in style.

he is always at mercy of others to deliver - earlier Sehwag and Yuvraj have helped him immensely in taking Indian cricket to next level.

Gambhir- as Captain but not as batman
by satishgs on Jun 02, 2014 08:55 AM  | Hide replies

Gambhir may have won the title by leading it but failed miserably as a batsman, seeing him getting out for mere ducks, most occasions, it was a joke. Thanks to players like Robin Uthappa, Manish Pandey, and Bowlers Sunil Narine, Morkel, Shakib as all rounder made it for them.

Ultimately the better team won, in the final it was a close call between KKR and Kings.

Frankly KKR was more balanced then Punjab
by on Jun 02, 2014 03:17 AM

who relied more on M&M show and bunch of few newbie bowlers.
However I would appreciate Punjab for nurturing new talents whereas I would defame KKR for not doing any justice to young talent except for S.Yadav

"Not to take away any credit from KKR but Punjab did not select Sandip Sharma and Rishi Dhawan. Instead they brought that stupid Awana and Karanveer. Both having no sense of bowling"
