GAME PLAN
by Shilpa Mehta on Jul 30, 2014 12:16 PM  | Hide replies

MSD with Shami & Pankaj should play carefully till lunch today & avoid follow on first .
Then after lunch MSD will change gears to 20 - 20 mode keeping strike to himself & score quick 50 - 60 runs which not difficult for a player like MSD .
Even if India gets all out in this process with ENG leading around 150 runs , they need to score another 150 before declaring in second innings giving a target of 300 plus on last day with only two sessions remaining .
This way match can be easily drawn .
If ENG cannot win in their own backyard it means they has lost the game .
POOR ENGLAND .

We Indians are totally used to losing, so a loss never surprises us so much as a win does; actually, a win shocks us.

Bring in Ashwin
by Krish on Jul 30, 2014 08:25 AM  | Hide replies

But for Vijay and Rahane the batting is below par. Although Pujara is getting starts he is not in great touch. Kohli, Dhawan and Rohit are essentially strokeplayers who can crush opposition on flat wickets, not in Engl. Essentially Dhoni needs to overcome his aversion to Ashwin. Ashwin is a better batsman than ROhit with strong technical ability. No doubt Ashwin is better than Jadeja. His records speak for themselves in test cricket. Ganguly and Dravid need to be reminded that Ashwin has played only one test and bowled only in one innings abroad in last 3 years. To compare his debut series in 2011 with Kumble/ Bhaji is meaningless since every Indian spinner has struggled abroad in the initial period. Ashwin can't be wasted on flat track ODI matches bowling 47th over. Bring him in.

Problem is Gambhir too hasn't scored outside India. Last 3 years he was test cricket passenger before being dropped. However Dhoni should bring in Ashwin- high time.

Drop the irresponsible Rohit Sharma
by M Raj on Jul 30, 2014 07:32 AM

Fervent appeal to indian cricket selectors: Please DO NOT give any more chances to irresponsible Rohit. How many more chances you will give it to him? Look at his careless shot today...Really bad, really bad...He is wasting every chance..

Indian batsman will play well
by Varadarajan Ravindran on Jul 30, 2014 06:11 AM

The Indian batsmen with limited experience are playing reasonably well. They will bat well in the second innings and England cannot repeat their performance. If the Indians play properly, they will do well in the remaining two days. These new players are far better than the old ones like Tendulkar and Sehwag at the end of their career. The absence of Ishant Sharma is felt as the line-and-length bowlers cannot get wickets all the time. There is no problem with the Southampton wicket, and Indians will play well offering good resistance on the last two days. The top batsmen will not commit the mistakes that they made in the first innings.

Rahane's shot selection
by seejo paul on Jul 30, 2014 01:18 AM  | Hide replies

Rahane's shot selection was not poor as mentioned above. That shot was on. The problem was, he was early into his short.
