DHONI's DEFENSIVE APPROACH DUE TO BATTING GLITCHES ?
by damodaran mohan on Jul 28, 2014 01:25 PM  | Hide replies

Exactly, once Dhoni admits 1-0 lead is not big should he not avoid a defensive mindset and go all out for a win to make it 2-0 against a demoralized English side ? For that he has to have the best bowling attack of pace and spin for variety that will suit all 5 days wicket not just the 1st day.The selection of extra batsman by itself is an admission of lack of dependability of Indian batting. To that extent Dhoni cannot be faulted because the top order ,except for Murali Vijay and Rahane is yet to fire. Even Dhoni himself is not sure footed when it comes to Test batting and needs Rohits back up perhaps.Anyway coming to 1st day’s play. Pankaj Singh was the pick of the bowler on his debut on a wicket with low bounce and should not lose heart as drop catches, hard decisions …are all part of the game. The umpire cannot be faulted as in real time the decision looked Ok with the ball pitching on the leg stump. P/Singh is sure to get wicket to-day if he maintains the same zeal and quality of bowling. Other pacers too bowled not badly but w/o luck .May be Shami should be a bit more consistent with O-line although the length was far better than what was seen so far.jadeja has his own all round utility but he is playing more of a containment role. One wonders if Dhoni is protecting Ashwin in view of his poor record overseas! If the Capt. is not confident of Ashwin he should get other spinners. The wicket is playing very good and if Indian batting doesn’t click twice t

(contd.)...if Indian batting doesn’t click twice then India does have a problem with just 3and ½ bowlers !

He's only going to surrender lead defending out of form players
by K Ram on Jul 27, 2014 09:16 AM  | Hide replies

Is Dhoni trying to protect an out of form Virat from the wrath of fans and the media? Why is he going to for an additional batsman when the side is already packed with seven able players (in fact, 8 if one considers Bhuvi too). It's unfair to drop Stuart who saved the side from blushes with his 70 knock, without giving a fairly long run. The same goes good in the case of Jaddu too then. Barring his one knock, he too hasn't done anything (apart from being a street fighter) noteworthy to retain his place. He has bowled more overs than even the specialist producing a paltry returns. Binny seems to be more organised a batsman than Jaddu who's only living on his luck rather than any methodical appraoach. Dhoni's liking towards a few players has always prevailed more than any wisdom. It's the bowlers who are overworked and hence if at all there's any change, it's only wise to go in for an extra bowler and not another batsman. I'd even take a chance by dropping Kohli for Varun or Pankaj

The selectors and the captain are the best judge to select the team according to the condition and circumstances. They should be given free hand to decide the selection as ultimately they will be accountable and responsible for teams performance on the field and will be answerable in case of debacle.

there's going to be debacle exactly in this test and it's going to be innings defeat for team India. MSD is lucky; not talented. His strokes bear the testimony to my statement. it's like a farmer ploughing the land... his strokes I mean... most awkward and ugly ever seen...

MSD the indian captain
by Viraf Chinoy on Jul 27, 2014 09:09 AM

MSD is always known to make biased decisions / take sides with his CSK mates in team india too. Few will understand the logic of including Binny & keeping Rohit Sharma out. MSD must remember that Rohit is a bowler too & has picked-up crucial wickets in T20. Why not allow him to be tried out in Tests too? Come on MSD at least now forget your bias against Mumbai players. Let us hope that Rohit plays in the final XI this afternoon. All the best to team india

five specialist bowlers with Ashwin replacing Binny. This will give better variety and options in the bowling department. The batting abilities of Ashwin,Bhuvi and Jadeja can make up for the sixth batsman.

you took so much pains that even the selectors started reading rediff boards. afterall pcb is a third grade board as stated by shoaib akthar so they dont see feedback of others.
