thats hypocrisy.. we don't know our real heroes and expect world to admire us.. we have to focus on football or tennis to get world recognition.. on one side we are scared of competition in global sports and on the other side expects world recognition by playing cricket the game of pakistan, sri-lanka, bangladesh type few countries..
I m a big fan of Sachin tendulkar. Where is sharapova when The Aussie Skipper Steve Waugh went on to say “It was one of the greatest innings I have ever seen. There is no shame being beaten by such a great player, Sachin is perhaps only next to the Don.”
Where is Sharapova when... Shan warne went to say. “I’ll be going to bed having nightmares of Sachin just running down the wicket and belting me back over the head for six. He was unstoppable. I don’t think anyone, apart from Don Bradman, is in the same class as Sachin Tendulkar. He is just an amazing player.”

How many Russian sports legends do we know? Have u heard the names Kovalchuk, Bazarevich, Karasev? They are million dollar Russian sportspersons playing ice hockey and basketball in the NBA...we have to lose this mindset that we are the center of the world and acknowledge that there are other sports stars in the world whose achievements are no less than Sachin's in cricket. Besides Maria didn't mean any disrespect at all, by showing her ignorance of cricket, and had the guts to admit to it...instead of coming out with neutral reply... From a broader perspective how long must this go on, creating issues out of non-issues???
First and most important question to be asked to all the overzealous Sachin fans - Is Maria Sharapova a sports journalist who needs to be aware about famous sports personalities from all over the world ? Give her a break, dear gentlemen. Its absolutely normal to be a loyal fan of a person who has delighted a majority of the country's population since he was 16 years old. But, do remember Maria Sharapova turned professional at the age of 14 and won Wimbledon at the age of 17. She has gone on to win another 4 grand slams and a silver medal at the Olympics. Even at the age of 27 after 13 years on the circuit she is still a contender in the grand slams. This is no mean achievement. Imagine the countless hours put in daily to compete at this level. Hence it is not a big deal if her general knowledge in sports other than her own is not something to be spoken about. Also, she didn't say anything disrectful about Sachin. When enquired if she knew who Sachin Tendulkar is, she just said she didn't. Hypothetically, if Sachin were to attend a press conference and someone asks him the name of one of the Baseball legends just because he had come to attend a match played by Sachin and Sachin says no, wont it be treated as a normal thing ? We really need to get out of this 'frog in a well' attitude and appreciate that there is a big world outside. We should not crib about not getting an endorsement from an outsider and learn to be confident and appreciate our own positives first. Cheers !!
such a direct question. else she might answered something more diplomatic. the reporter it seems was wanting to show she does not know who sachin is Or wanted to show sachin is not so big that maria knows him (for his arrogance)
while sharapova is hawwtt ! cricket only played by 10 odd weak countries where 50% of population lives under poverty ..india , bang pak etc etc .. 10dulkar is 10th fail ..and all his fans also have low IQ ..
