PACER ALL-ROUNDER BHUVI COULD HIT A CENTURY
by damodaran mohan on Jul 16, 2014 03:41 PM  | Hide replies

(contd.)Both have to be played for all the Tests for proper balace, flexibility and effectiveness of bowling attack; to make the spin attack more effective and lethal operating in tandem. Further, jadeja needs to improve---he is over-pitching the ball making it easy for the batters. Both Jadeja and Ashwin have to bowl a length that can cause a bit of unpredictability due to turn in respect of ball trajectory post pitching before hitting the bat or pad etc. Coming to pacers, Dhoni is not right in lamenting about lack of pacer allrounder with Bhuvi like character around. In fact he is batting like a perfect Test batsman over and above his brilliant swing bowling !.Don’t be surprised if Bhuvi hits a century at Lords !Further, as far as Binny jr is concerned he is still an all-rounder in the making with his bowling hardly of any consequence, The way he showed application and saved the match for India he is to be treated more as a batsman but again in the making rather than as an all-rounder. With seniors like Gambhir,Rohit Sharma in the waiting Binny thus doesn’t make it to first XI. So Dhoni has two choices given Binny’s heroics of 1st Test. Play same eleven except for inclusion of Ashwin in place of Md Shami who is not bowling well. That is 3 pacers in Ishant,Bhuvi and Binny and 2 spinners. Alternately replace Binny, which might look a bit unfair with Ashwin and play with 3 pacers including allrounder B/Kumar.Even a new pacer can be played in place of Md

(contd.)..in place of Md Shami who certainly needs some break going by his bowling performances in the preceding tours in SA,NZ etc.But Dhoni must play 2 spinner for the entire series.Strategy for ENG ? The sticky fevicol Jo Root needs some special taking care. .

PLAY 3 PACERS 2 SPINNERS FOR BALACE AND FLEXIBILITY

Although the trend of India failing to deliver the killer punch with Capt Dhoni drawing lot of flak as in earlier overseas Test series continues but the new look young Indian side can take a lot of positives from the Nottingham Test. Dhoni too seemed to have somewhat redeemed himself with bat with his gritty 1st innings. Besides capt cool did come up with some attacking field setting and bowling changes which got neutralized greatly due to the placid wicket that seemed to have hurt both sides. Given this background of a Dhoni on an upswing it will not be wise to rekindle the captaincy issue in the middle of the series. As far as team batting,Murali Vijay was all a picture of concentration and application. Patiently leaving out deliveries he seems to be getting into the “ runs accumulation” mentality of a Sachin ,Dravid etc that will help him cement his place in Tests. Let’s hope the Middle order of Kohli and Rahane would come good at historic Lords. On the bowling side Ishant was simply brilliant and he needs to maintain Five bowler theory is the right approach only that given the limitations of Indian pacers “law of diminishing return” starts with inclusion of 4th pacer. So 3 pacers and 2 spinners gets the best balance especially with English wickets looking more and more like the subcontinent wickets.I only hope Dhoni who made the mistake of playing only one spinner in the 1st Test doesn’t goof up again by picking one spinner in As

When the Indian bowlers were struggling to dismiss Joe Root and James Anderson on day 4 of the 1st Test between England and India, former Indian cricketers-turned-commentators Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly showed their funny side as they poked fun at each other in the commentary box in the presence of Harsha Bhogle.
The conversation started with the southpaw stating that he played a big part as a bowler in India’s series win in England in 2007under the captaincy of Dravid, which led to a comparison of Sachin Tendulkar and Ganguly’s bowling statistics from the 2007 series showing up on the screen.
Here are the excerpts:
Dravid: I was just trying to figure out how many overs I gave to Tendulkar and Ganguly (in 2007). Maybe I under bowled Ganguly there, but Sachin had more Test wickets.
Ganguly: He (Dravid) always did that.
Bhogle: Tendulkar has more Test wickets than Ganguly.
Ganguly: That’s because he (Tendulkar) bowled half his overs on turning pitches in India.
Bhogle: I like how you (Ganguly) are sticking to your territory.
Ganguly: Those turning pitches on day 5 in India. Those dust bowls. I wish I knew how to bowl a little bit of spin. That’s on flat batting pitches. On good pitches where you needed skill, look at the economy (2.3 rpo in 2007). I did the perfect 5th bowler’s job.

Why does this guy pop up every time there is a series involving India is is progress? Is it some way to create mental pressure so that the team loses in England. Hasn't that idiot Greg done enough harm already? It is our magnanimity that we still tolerate such idiots! When Indian ex cricketers comment on the Aussies they react abusively asking them to mind their own business. It is about time we returned the compliment.

This has been aussie way for a long time. Mental games before a series. He wasnt there passing comments when we went to SA, NZ. Now before Aus series which is next in line he has appeared suddenly. And trying to unsettle leadership even novices know how poor was Kohli in IPL, asia cup
