If at all Dhoni wants India to win the last game and save some respect, then he need to make some changes. First and foremost he MUST drop Ashwin and bring in Amit Mishra. Another player Iswhar Pandey if warming the seats in dressing room, why not bring him in by replacing Rahane who has not performed so far?
Dhoni can also lead with example by opening the innings with Rohit Sharma and let Virat be at number 3 position.
If the above done, may be we stand some chance to smell success.
The world cup is one year way and will be played in Australia and New Zealand. So the current series against New Zealand should be looked as the one to unerstand our weekness and prepare a combination for next years world cup. This will require selectors and Dhoni to rectify the mistakes that they have done.
1) If we look at 2 major tournaments that were held in Australia we will see that the major contributer of taking wickets has been a leg spinner. Of course fast bowlers have also take wickets but leg spinner has played major role in teams success
- 1985 Benson & Hedges World Championship of Cricket : India won this tournament and L Sivaramakrishnan played a major role by taking wickets. He was the highest wicket taker for india in the tournament. In the finals he took 3 important wickets to help India win the finals.Ravi Shastri palyed a supporting role with his left arm spin.
- 1992 World Cup : Pakistan won this tournament and Mushtag Ahmed was the 2nd highest wicket taker for pakistan with 16 wickets from 9 matches. Wasim Akram had 18 wickets from 10 matches. In Finals Mushtaq took 3 important to help pakistan win the final. The combination for Pakistan in this tournament was :3 fast bowlers, one leg spinner and 2 part time bowlers. Amir Sohail bowled his slow left arm spin as 5th bowler.
Even though these tournaments were help in 1985 and 1992 and lot may have changed in ODI cricket since then but I still believe a leg spinner can add value to the team

good work Yoker .. I completely agree with you.. but indian fast bowlers are useless. there for we need to trust our spinners...
Every team and player will under go bad patch of form during their career. We won't find any team in the world in any form of group sports who delivers top notch performance all th team. Here in India, due to the money making mechanism of BCCI and players, they are being grinded continuously to play or jump from place to place without given time for sharpening or improving or adding any new skills. Make a player to sit for long and suddenly push him to play. Naturally, human body requires some rest, training, skills, and time to find some form before reaching peak. I feel sorry Fo their plight though I am worried about the loss in NZ.
