Dhoni VS Ganguly who is best
by kalyan karpurapu on Jan 30, 2014 05:21 PM  | Hide replies

If you put along Teams of diff generations for .....all the current International teams including SA/AUS/ENG/IND/PAK would be playing along side Qualifying nations (Tier 2 cricket countries like UAE/Afganistan etc)............or you can say these are India A, Australia A, Pak A team WRT to 90's teams, winning world cup does not make you best captain......
Fact that Ganguly cultivated pool of new age crickets like Yuvraj/Zak/Sehwag/Harbajan along side already establisted Sachin/Kumble/Dravid.
Take any achievement by dhoni

1. T20 Wcup - One man show by Yuvraj in must win games prequarter & Quarter finals(vs ENG 6 6's, vs Aus 70 runs), finally people credited Dhoni hadling last over to Jogindar sharma....have any one seen Jogindar after that last ball so it was just gamble it worked
Man of the series: G Gambhir, 50 in T20 final

2. ODI World Cup: Its yuvraj again Man of the series, Zak highest wicket taker
Gambhir - 97 in Wcup final's

3. Test No.1 status: Destructive batting of Sehwag stabilizing the opening with G Gambhir, poor ZAK while credit always given to batsman but indias success always co-incides with ZAK in red-hot form

Ever contributing Sachin/Dravid/Kumble/Laxman

4. ICC Champions Trophy - this is the only one which can be attributed to Dhoni because this does not have Yuvraj/Zak/Sehwag/Gambhir...this win is purely by some of his bunnies (Jadeja/Ashwin/Rohit/Raina) but still Kohli & Dhawan are star performers who's success dhoni cant clai

2. ODI world cup : in addition to what is mentioned, I think Sachin was second highest run-getter in the tournament.

Its tricky question who is best fortunately people have wrong perception as most of them count number of cups/wins etc.......actually we can not compare wins of recent time with Ganguly's, Kapil's & Pataudi's era's........what the old one's have done is remarkable if you consider quality of opposition........All Dhoni's wins came in era where there were hardly any legends of the game or the legends like Ponting/Kalli's are at the end of their careers.......the current quality of world cricket has hardly 2 or 3 contenders who can become legends......Dale Steyn/Kohli rest all are average

See his past record and then criticize.Must have noticed body-language of some of the key-players; it appeared they were not playing with full zeal and enthusiasm. Did they want to unceremoniously get him lose captaincy?

Slow Starting is fine but this is pathetic
by Ashok Kumar on Jan 30, 2014 09:12 AM

Indians are known for being slow starters in any series abroad. But what is surprising is despite reaching NZ a week earlier, Indians are found to be lacking in adoption to NZ conditions. Quite obviously there were no preparation before leaving for NZ and some of our players were not even allowed to play in the Ranji trophy matches. Preparation is key to winning matches abroad. Sadly BCCI doesn't seem to care about it.

Winning in NZ is always difficult for any country. But the way Indians are playing it shows clear absence of both on field and off field intelligence and planning.

The funniest thing that has been happening all the while is India winning few matches towards the end of a series and everything is forgotten ever after.

Lucky captain!!
by Vishwajay Chakravarty on Jan 30, 2014 09:07 AM  | Hide replies

All his successes have come on Indian tracks except T20 world cup. He has been failing miserably abroad as captain, yet he continues because of Mr. Srinivasan who cannot look beyond his nose!!
Earlier Indian captains lost their places in the team for one series defeat! remember Wadekar, Srikanth, Venkat etc.etc. Here is a guy who has lost 10 test matches in a row on foreign soil and still remains captain!!
No wonder he is the luckiest guy in India. He should stand for PM in our next elections. With his luck he may become PM of India as well.

his guy is keeping wicket, a back-breaking work. Then he goes out and scores every game and he is a captain. The pundits keep blaming without giving him resources.

Overload is not an excuse. He has Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the team. Whats more, Rohit Sharma has won an IPL final over Dhonis team. If India won because of Dhoni's captaincy all these days, it means that India lost because of him as well in SA & NZ :)

If he is overloaded, he should leave atleast one job to Kohli or Rohit. Easiest is captaincy.

if there is no quality bowlers and also team selection is done by selector than how far captain to be blamed. Even you keep greatest of great captain in world cricket till now than also he will not able to give result with such bowler. India is always concentrating in doing business in cricket rather than playing quality cricket.

Dont tell me Ishant, Vinay Kumar, Rohit Sharma and the likes are selected again and again by the selectors only with no objection from Dhoni. It makes Dhoni a mason who has to buildings with any TomDickHarry given to him :)

Except for last 12 months or so, he has been good... one thing should be kept in mind, its a team game, expectation is that as unit it performs, if that doesn't happen many good performances will go unnoticed.
