So he knocked down stumps when bowling close to stumps occasionally .... so what?

He used to take 4 wkts/match and bowl 90 miles per hour. The coaches did not like that... figures.

England LIKE punishment from Australia - like in 1974 when selectors denied Mike Denness to have John Snow in his side. He was too aggressive and too fast etc. So they had no one to answer Lillee and Thommo.

Yes Snow could have answered them.

England is making same mistake as India by retaining captain

How can a Captain who failed miserably as batsman & leader be allowed to continue without similar results in overseas tours? India made the mistake by retaining Dhoni after 4-0 in England & paid heavy price in form of loosing Australi 4-0 & domestic series against England. His presence as captain in SA was once again a factor for not converting a winning position in first test. The mental strength required to win overseas disappears after such heavy loss & cook who has a good run against India & Aussies will better of by being a player.

Come on , you mean losing and not loosing. Just because England has lost 0-5, you should not take it out on Queens English.

Hi Pradeep,

I guess you are overlooking the fact that we lack the kind of bowling attack one needs to win in abroad. While I agree that a Captain has to be aggresive in his approach to fielding, I would say with the kind of nonsensical bowling, guys like Ishanth delivers, no field position is going to help despite having some of the best fielders in the world in our side. Other teams have increasingly played well in Indian conditions, because of IPL and the extensive cricket that comes along with it. Foreign players really know how to play in India nowadays. The same things happened in the 80s when many WI players played county cricket in England and they whitewashed them when WI toured England.

Sadly BCCI doesn't believe in letting our players become accustomed to foreign conditions and the team suffers. I don't see what a captain like Dhoni could do under these conditions.
