David Warner's excuse after losing the test
by sunil vaidya on Feb 25, 2014 03:05 PM  | Hide replies

David Warner has raised a query over South Africa's handling of the ball during their victory in Port Elizabeth and said the Australians would speak to the umpires about the issue of scuffing the ball.
The South Africa attack found greater reverse swing during the second Test than Australia, which contributed to their win, and Warner conceded that both teams worked on the ball in an attempt to gain an advantage. However, he said the Australians would check with the umpires on the method of handling the ball used by South Africa's wicketkeeper AB de Villiers.
"I think it comes down to the umpires warning both teams not to throw the ball into the wicket which you generally try and do," Warner told Sky Sports Radio. "They did it better than what we did, or more obvious than what we did. At the end of the day it comes down to who can do that the best and work on the ball.
"We worked on the ball a lot in England and we got the ball to reverse a lot there and we got the ball reversing a little at home and this time it just didn't work for us because the outfield was probably a little bit moist under the ground and day one it was obviously quite hard to get it to go reverse as well. That's what happens in the game. You have to try and work out how to do that. Sometimes that happens.
"We were actually questioning whether or not AB de Villiers would get the ball in his hand and with his glove wipe the rough side every ball.

anyone can say anything post game, let them prove the allegations. just because warner has alleged something, it doesn't make it right. welcome to south africa haha...they wanted mitch to come out top again, sadly it was steyn who came out tops. this is not australia after all. the aussies must not be sore losers, accept they lost to a better team.

if dhoni was aus captain, dhoni's excuse would've been hard decisions to grab the last two wickets, after all, harris's decision lbw was to an umpire's call, and nathan lyon was wrong adjudged lbw (he didn't have no reviews left to review it)

seeing the two tests, it makes you wish it was a 4 or 5 test series, instead of just 3. mitch failed to provide the same sort of stuff in the 1st test, and here steyn came out tops, cape town would continue the battle between steyn and mitch. it was quite a remarkable match the last time the teams played in cape town, remember watching the as aus were bundled out for only 47!! after they got sa out cheaply as well

This is real fight. Our great guys prepare flat pitches and score runs. They are nowhere near the quality of Australia or South Africa. The pity is Indian players are paid much more than what they deserve.

100% agree Adin.. The pitch was helping both the batsmen & bowlers (include the spinners as well).. It was an ideal test match!

it was just another flat pitch...difference is because the pitch is in SA nobody will call a flatpitch as a flat pitch...

just because the pitch was slow and not as grassy as the one in 1st test, it doesn't make it a flat pitch, there was enough bounce on the pitch, and good playing conditions prevailed with opportunities with both bat & ball. in the subcontinent, the ball doesn't rise above the knee roll, plus the pitches deteriorate a lot from 3rd day , some even after the 1st day. over here, the nature of the pitch was the same even on the 4th day, and was to stay the same the next day. just because it was probably not a pitch that mitch would've liked it doesn't make it a flat pitch.

Champion team this SA... India can learn a lesson or two from them ... To come back from behind was truly awesome. Only great teams can accomplish such a performance. Now it's going to be 2-1 in favour of SA. Aussies are down and out. Get Watson back and drop Doolan... Hehehe....
