Whether it is side strain or otherwise Dhoni's absence added to a somewhat new looking side is going to be Virat's real captaincy test for sure. It is not clear if it was Dhoni or whether it was Virat who associated with the selection of the side. Virat will have to deal with an unsettled side looking very different from that which won champions trophy. The new Captain now while deciding his best playing XI will have to strategize as to how best to fill the void for Dhoni’s finishing heroics. Next the opening pair given they have not done all that well in SA and NZ. Dhawan is ok but whether he should think of other options in Pujara,Rahane and Karthik given Rohit Sharma’s unpredictability ? Batting line up and batting order has to be finalized considering that Pujara is relatively new for one dayers. May be Pujara could be more useful for stabilizing middle order considering his orthodox style of play. The roles like floaters will have to be clearly assigned .Then comes the bowling combo. Three pacers-one spinner, one spin all-rounder or pacer all-rounder, extra batsman..etc.,Virat has just three games to try out different variations. But less changes the better it is. He must play his best XI for the first match.
How these Young & inexperienced team will perform in Asia Cup ?? I'm bit doubtful .
Team must always have correct blend of experience & youth . Without MSD , Yuvraj , Raina , who will the do the role of match winner or great finisher in middle order ??
Will these Rayadu , Rahane , Dinesh Karthik or Binny handle the pressure ??
If the score is Say 200 for 6 and we are chasing 280, these inexperienced batsman will succumb to pressure & will be all out around 250-260 , whereas MSD Yuvi & Raina always took Team India to victory under such situations . Even Jadeja for that matter is good .

Shilpa Mehta what are your views about our bowling attack in this asia cup? I think d karthik is a good replasement for ms dhoni. but we are really missing captain cool.
1 dhawan. 2 rohit. 3 kohli. 4 rahane 5 raidu 6 d karthik. 7 ashwin 8jadeja 9 buvi. 10 varun. 11 shammi. this is not my dreem team. this is going to be the real team. in my view S binny and poojara deserved a chans.

D kartick should bat higher in the order specially as opener or no 4... Also they should have included Dashing opener Murali Vijay

sharanu d karthik scored D KARTHIK in asia cup 2010.
against srilanka 40. srilanka 66. in icc cup 2013. against westindies 51 not out. but d karthik was droped from the team for yuvi. I hope in the feuture our d karthik may get chans. d karthik should bat at 04. but if there is useless raidu or rahane d karthik will not get the chans to bat at 04.

thanks for all the great info... Kartick was mercilessly droped despite a far better performance than those norties rainas rohits( one of the worst inconsitent perfomers in recent times) even if Dhoni comes back DK should continue as pure batsman as he is far better than fit for nothing norties

i told 'may' get chance. but if kohli gets 'orders' from non-playing capt dhobi, then no changes vl b made in playing xi.

Ramdas Nayak do you have any cricket knowledge? we are playing in asia not in australia. 4medium pase bowlers and one spinner.hahahaha.
If we used our brains with Dhoni also gone, we could have included Gambhir, yuvraj as need some experience.. in the middle. Mind it Pujara, Raydu have not played so its a bit of fluke..

I would say Yuvi deserved one more opportunity to make it big in asia cup given his criticality in earlier world cups (T20, 2011), etc. as long as Dhawan is doing well Gambhir can warm the benches.
