Mahendra Singh Dhoni has severe problems wit team selection, bowling operations and field setting. He selects useless batsman like Murali Vijay who have lower averages than the competitors. Rohit Sharrma is a better opener and would be compatible with Shikar Dhawan, providing a combination of a right-hand and left-hand opening batsmen. His selection of fast bowlers is dubious; Varun Aaron and Umesh Yadav are easy choices to be combined with Mohammed Shami or Ishant Sharma. In the spin department, Prghyan Ojha and Amit Mishra are better flighters of the ball than Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. In the field-setting and bowling change as well as new ball operation, technique and strategy areas, Dhoni's captaincy is absolutely poor as compared to Sourabh Ganguly. Additionally, the coach Duncan Fletcher is a zombie and a slob in the technical competence and inspirational guidance areas.

thanks for opening up the selectors minds. You compare a legend like Dhoni to a average captain like Dangooly. if danguly was so great why we lost so many finals under him

Look any Legend, nobody failed as much as Ganguly, that makes him average captain.. Get it dimwit especially when we had so many legends in the team..

Mr.AAA INDIA might have won Wcups/Test no.1 under Dhoni's captaincy but key contributors are Yuvraj/Zak/Sehwag who owe their careers to Ganguly.....beat your chest when Sir Jadeja/R ashwin /M vijay win you any CUP's then claim them into account of Dhoni otherwise T20/ODI Wcup's dhoni's contribution as player is zero we won both just because of heriocs of INDIVIDUAls....
If you have any cricketing sense use it to evaluate the quality of International sides in 90's/early 2000's to current ODI teams.......Alll hte current teams quality is equivalent to INDIA A/Aus A/ENG A /PAK A etc compared to respective teams
1. while leading indian team he proved by more overseas win 2. while leading Rajastan royals with no big names except watson, he managed to enter finals, that's a great achievement 3. I think he also won a ranji trophy for karnataka as captain

he is the only captain of india who self retired from captaincy as succesful captain, Sachin got self retirement from captaincy when he was not able to perform as a player and as captain

Not many focus Dravid of V Captain through out Ganguly as captain, I have read in many articles that he was closely involved in planning activiteis along with Indian Coach this has helped Ganguly great deal
M S Dhoni and Sourav Ganguly...both have been 2 of the best Captains in contemporary Indian Cricket. Under Ganguly's captaincy, the nucleus of the modern Indian Cricket Team was formed...the rewards of which were reaped and enjoyed even long after his captaincy tenure. Under Ganguly India started winning Tests abroad....India drew 1-1 in England in 2002,lost 1-2 in West Indies, drew 1-1 in Austraila in 2004,won 2-1 in Pakistan....won The Natwest Trophy in England in 2002,won Icc Champions Trophy jointly with Sri Lanka in 2002..and reached the final of World Cup in 2003 where India lost to a far better team Australia...and won the Test Series against Steve Waugh's Austraila at home in 2001...Dhoni has won us T2o World Cup in 2007,World Cup at home in 2011 and the Champions Trophy last year...but under his captaincy India has been failing in Test abroad...losing badly since quite a time(4-0 in England,4-0 in Australia,1-0 in South Africa,1-0 in New Zealand)...even when India have been in strong positions,India have not managed to win, because of Dhoni's defensive techniques(for example-1st Test in South Africa and 2nd Test in New Zealand)so there will be criticism of his captaincy in Test matches and questions will arise of his captaincy in Test Cricket...there are also reports of his preference for his CSK mates Ashwin ,Raina and his reluctance in giving others like Amit Mishra,Stuart Binny etc a chance to prove themselves.the question remains-does Dhoni deserve Test captaincy?

More often than not, a captain is as good as his team. dravid/sachin/sehwag/harbhajan etc were at their peak when ganguly captained. KKR plummeted to bottom when ganguly was captain. Then Pune went to bottom when ganguly captained them. Similar thing happened to ponting when his legends retired. The captain and coach dont play a major role and it would be wrong to make them a hero or zero.

Gnaduly was an average captain and reasonable good batsman. Eventhough he had legends in the team he could not win world cup when everybody was in prime. We lost so many finals under him he is an insult to all the legends. He did full fledged lazy cheap low life politician..

ganguly payed mostly against weaker nations...out of his 11 away wins 6 wins have come against teams like zimbabwe and BD....dhoni has played very few times against these teams...very few aganst BD never against zimbabwe...

azhar built the indian team of sachin dravid ganguly laxman kumble bhajji srinath etc..and turned it into a winning unit..ganguly just inherited the winning team built by azhar and reaped the fruits of it...

people say ganguly taught us to win abroad...but only against teams like bd and zim...and he also taught us to lose against teams like zim and nz....dhoni intorduced world class players like pujara kohli rohit dhawan ...it was he who gave chances to ojha mishra praveen yadav bhuvi shami and many others...when dhoni retires and we sit to to check who introduced whom we will it is azhar and dhoni who gave more world class players than ganguly...besides dhoni many times supported players like bhajji and yuvi when there were calls to drop them but he persisted with them knowing they were good and got results from them....if it was not dhoni yuvi would never have played world cup and got all those accolades...

ganguly with his team of senior legends lost to zim srilanka...in 2002 ganguly with all our senior legends was whitewashed 0-2 in nz...contrast this with this loss where we lost 0-1...but were in situations where we had chance to win both the tests at some point of time...even in sa we ran the no 1 ranked team close in their own country...they came close to losing a tests...not us but sa should be ashamed that a newcomers team of whom only dhoni ishant and zaheer have experience of tests abroad gave them a scare...ashwin jadeja bhuvi shami yadav were bowling for the first time there...smith kallis abd amla had INDIVIDUALLY played MORE tests than the no. of tests vijay dhawan rohit puhara kohli rahane had played PUT TOGETHER.,...

Hi Sunil , don't take so much tension , it will effect your health , belittling Ganguly will not affect the most successful Indian Captain ,the only one to stand up for his country of which you are a citizen as well , but he is used to guys like you who prefer regionalism to country , relax and pray for India .

draavid was the worst captain in history. He joined hands with greg chappal & played out Ganguly. Finally ran away from responsibility & gave it up!!

LOLZ People memory is week, Ganguly was out of form and not listening to captain and coach, because Dravid was good human being he tolerated Dada, Greg was aggressive and went ahead with his plan execution, after all it's captain's call and Dravid rightfull supported coach's decission
