Worst Captain Dhoni
by sachin tendulkar on Feb 19, 2014 07:45 PM  | Hide replies

He couldn’t get out Faf Duplesis in SA and now he couldn’t get our McGullam in NZ even in those alien conditions. Before Tea – Kohli bowled and after Tea Dhoni bowled. Starting from 71st over itself, thinking about the new ball available only after 80th over! Even tailender will score 50 runs from those 10 overs.
We need aggressive captain like Kohli...

Why only Dhoni, no one in India trusts our bowlers
by Bhaskar Iyer on Feb 19, 2014 07:40 PM

Why only Dhoni, no right thinking Indian cricket lover should trust our bowlers. Lack of consistency, effort and commitment are a hallmark of our bowlers. Zaheer trundling on the field like an old cow, Ishant shining in patches and more often than not erring in line without thinking of the field placements given, Sami just runing in fast and delivering without any direction or control, Bhuvi, Yuvi, Raina just acting like "kaddhu" fillers again without any real effort to think of how to get the batsmen out and just going through the motions...Ashwin, Harbhajan oh! they are both absolutely useless on any wicket other than an under-prepared rank turner Indian wicket. With this type of bowling, its a wonder that we win tests at all. In the late 60s and early 70s just before the spin-quartet shone, our bowlers just used to keep bowling till the opposition batsmen became tired and got out...the situation is not much different now. Agreed Dhoni could have tried to push the tempo by being more aggressive on the field, but then there is no dis-incentive for him even if he loses what with Srini-mama on his side always.

by pravin sarode on Feb 19, 2014 06:38 PM  | Hide replies

there is some thing fishy as MJ took 7 wickets in first innings and 5 in second while sharma ji took 7 then failed in second innings while the poor fielding dropped catches take credits

Dhoni, not a shrewd captain
by anand datar on Feb 19, 2014 06:07 PM  | Hide replies

I doubt whether he is a shrewd captain ! His selection of batting or bowling after winning the toss surprises me sometimes. The best captain is the one who judges the pitch conditions, weather conditions, weaknesses and strengths of the opposition, strengths or weaknesses of his own players, changing over bowlers and the ends they bowl from and controlling the game from the pavilion when he is not batting etc etc. Of course, luck is also required !

Dhoni, defensive captain
by mohammed ali on Feb 19, 2014 05:47 PM  | Hide replies

Dravid is right. Unlike his batting which is aggressive, his leadership is defensive. He plays with just three and half bowlers. The team has to be balanced. Playing with the team loaded with batsmen itself is defensive. one has to take 20 wickets to win.
