It is still a better performance put by our new team...if we had older generation players we would lost more easily and more badly...
we saw how experienced players like sachin dravid laxman sehwag gambhir bhajji zaheer played in aus and eng...we were whitewashed because of them....8 out 8 away losses with such experienced side....are these players worth calling back??
even when the above players had come in nz under ganguly we were whitewashed 0-2 in tests...
on other hand take the new generation team ...they put on a much better show than these older ''legends'' ....many played abroad tests first time in their life...except for dhoni and zaheer very few had played away tests if any....
against SA in SA the no 1 ranked team we lost 1 test...we were not whitewashed...we even came close to winning 1 test....even against nz even after falling behind by 300 runs in first innings we fought back tremendously well to bundle them up in their second innings and nearly chased the 400 target....
so who do you think performed better the experience team in aus and eng or the first timers in away tests in sa and nz??

let me tell you it is sa who should be ashamed by not winning the test series 2-0 because they are officially no 1 side they are playing at their home and their specialist batsmen like smith kallis amla ABD all have played MORE tests INDIVIDUALLY than the no. of test matches vijay pujara kohli rahane rohit dhawan PUT TOGETHER...
last time in nz under ganguly captaincy we had our all best players the legends still we lost...we were whitewashed 0-2...and compare this new side which has only 1 abroad test experience in SA ..even after falling behind by 300 runs what a fight they put up! and players like shami ashwin jadeja were bowling first time in away tests...

No one is saying to call dravid, laxman, ganguly back into the team. The food for thought is how players were handled under Dhoni's captaincy and how they were handed their exit. When those players were not performing in one or two tests there was always a hue and cry with a perform or perish policy.
Perform or perish policy was only adopted with those senior players but not with youngsters now. Why? that is the question.

If there always an knives fully surrounding you and you are asked to do a disco dance which should impress the audience will you be able to do. Thats what happened to sachin, dravid ganguly in those series which effected their performance. What is suggested here is a captain should act in the best interest of the game rather than favouring players who are maintained by Captain's sport agency

they were past their shelf life and so dropped....all of them had played for close to 2 decades...how long should they have been allowed to play?

giving time is ok for new players who have not played enough...but those who played for so long ...you still want to give them long rope ??
new players will only get better ..these older generation players will only decline further...
Strong Message!! Indian selectors are cracking good jokes now a days. I didnt see any strong message in it. A strong message would have been sacking Rohit sharma, Murali Vijay, Ravichandran Ashwin and removing Dhoni's captaincy in atleast one of the formats, preferably test captaincy.
Ever since Dhoni took over captaincy, he was more keen in retaining his captaincy rather than looking best interests of the team. When he found it difficult leading the team with more seniors, he should communicated that he will take the responsibility at a later stage. Instead he brought up the concept of phasing out the seniors. And almost all the seniors Anil Kumble, Saurav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Laxman were forced to retire barring sachin because of his iconic status. Dont know what ever are the reasons he also had the support of the selectors. These seniors were always under immense pressure to perform or perish. The result of the same was evidently seen with India losing in two over seas series.
Now other seniors like sehwag, gambhir, harbhajan are also meted out with the same treatment. One may say their domestic performance is not good. But that is also due to rough handling of the senior resources. Time and again Dhoni was only instrumental in bringing others careers to a forced end & always with the support of selectors. Dhoni is a good thinking captain but a poor resource manager without vision. So are our selectors. A captain's career inspired by Chakde movie has ended abrup
get back ganguly. ganguly was no doubt a selfish player who always slowed when nearing a 50 or 100 and put his personal performance and records before the the teams interests, but he nurtured young players and turned them into match winners. he has formed the core of the team today and should be credited for that. his contribution is much more than that of this semi literate guy from jharkhand who like a typical north guy, is adept at playing politics, prefers his favourite players and in general isnt concerned when the team loses.

dungooly was the worst political crooked schemer that Indian cricket has seen
Fortunately he now lives in an old age home in Kolkatta where he whiles away his time while waiting to play marbles with his great grand children when they visit him once a year.
