It is not about individual players; it is about team ethos
by on Dec 22, 2014 02:51 AM

The team ethos are influenced by the management. If the Managers are arrogant and undemocratic the team can not be united in its pursuit.
The BCCI management does not understand that the cricketing fans want to see a moral institution which it( BCCI) must identify with. You can not have a President of BCCI who owns an IPL team and a captain who is hand in gloves with the President.
You can not have a non DRS umpiring only for India when the fans globally(and in India) want it.
You can not have few cricketers running the show from just one state and enriching themselves by manipulating various levers of power.
Bring in a transparent democracy in Cricket by highlighting the inspirations of paying Cricket fans rather than by suppressing their inspirations by few big names.

Law of diminishing returns!
by Ramesh Kapoor on Dec 22, 2014 02:30 AM

This not only applies in economics but also in performance. Over the years we have witnessed the graphs of many players who have fallen from the apex to the bottom of the scale. Dhoni too has reached the abyss and should retire from Test Cricket, and the Selectors at BCCI should take note of this. His captaincy sucks. Its about time!!!

So

Sorry but I don't think bowlers like Ishant Sharma and Ashwin have learnt anything from their mistakes. As a 19 year old, Ishant Sharma made a dream debut for India in Australia by getting wicket of players like Ponting but has consistently let us down. How he continues to be leader of attack is really a big wonder; similarly, Ashwin has made a place into team more due to personal favors and less due to sheer hard work. As long as we have bowlers like these who fail to learn after being persisted repeatedly, we're going closer to whitewash defeat every now and then.

remove Dhawan and Rohit Sharama for overseas matches. add Gambhir and Sehwag . they can play one more year atleast...I think for some reason Dhoni doesnt like both of them...

Sehwag and Gambhir are not able to sight the ball even in Ranji matches where the bowling is hardly 80Kmph.

to some extent, I appreciate this team. Surely this is not a mockery like 2011 ours to England and Australia. Both in batting and bowling there is surely some improvement. India missed the second test just due to the first hour on day 2 and day 4.

2011 series was a real catastrophe due to old and non performing players..! The top scorer in the series was Kohli with 1 century and 1 half century. SRT came second with 2 half centuries. If I am not mistaken, Ashwin was the 3rd or 4th highest beating even Laxman and Dhoni..!! Now, we have Vijay, Kohli, Rahane who are doing quite well because of which the scorecard crosses 300 frequently (big ask, if you see 2011 whitewashed tours).. Dhawan, to me is still a grey patch overseas. If the opening is good (like Viru/Gambhir were doing initially), the chances of winning are higher.

Batting has improved

Due to exposure on various wickets. But this is not enough. They need to adapt to test arena by developing patience

Next tour most probably Kohli will be captain and he will repeat this after the same results:)

Let them play a couple of T20 series and use the same team for tests.. The writing will be clearer on the wall :)

Ideally, I think splitting teams for tests and other formats makes sense..

sudden collapse in batting on the fourth day
by srirama chandra rao on Dec 21, 2014 09:17 PM

It is inexplicable as there was sudden batting collapse in the first few overs. Batting was good in the first innings and in the first test also. Bowlers failed us in the first innings of Australia.

"There is no substitute to experience. We cannot get experienced players from anywhere. These same players have to play more matches and get that experience. The more we play overseas more will be experience,"Dhonisaid. If that is true why Sehwag,Yuvi, and Bhajji, who were successful and are experienced in the present condition not taken in as he had the opportunity to ask for them on this crucial tour. Then he might well say poor form.if that were true then Kohli,Pujara,Rohit etc cannot be in as they had poor form in the earlier series. He should not keep giving excuses and must address the performance is seriously, including his as can be seen in the ECB dealing with Cook.Sydney must be our winning start to addressing a successful 2015.
