Learn from Sri Lanka

We used to be good at playing spin. Now thanks to IPL spin is a dying art and spinners just bowl flat. Our batsmen want to hit sixers every third ball and have forgotten front foot play.
Indian batsmen have always found it difficult against swing bowlers. But in England, we failed against Pace (Jimmy and Broad), Medium Pace and Spin. We should stop treating people like Kohli, Dhawan and Dhoni as super stars and treat them as average class players. That is the truth anyway. We should learn lessons from Sri Lanka and how committed their players are, but still remain humble and rotate captaincy. No wonder, they are winning matches at home and abroad.

Better Ranji Circuit must have been developed
by Uday Banerjee on Aug 20, 2014 05:31 PM  | Hide replies

If giving youngsters an opportunity to share dressing room and experience with international stars was the motive, then the Ranji Trophy should have been developed by inviting foreign players, using test class stadium and pitches. Even now it can be done, all money generated from IPL must be spent on developing domestic cricket.

Yes, use the IPL money to build more pitches and coaching. Also, change the IPL rules to favor bowlers more. Also, every 2 years players have to play in international leagues. Why Indian players do not play in foreign leagues? Is it because they dont get enough money or are they afraid?

UNDERSTAND

To a great extent yes .But the fact is where is talent ? One odd series one or two will score out side and then we say he is better than Bradman . So much i ssaid about Murali -with due respects first match was in a dud pitch and second match was a wash out to England -in these two matches Murali scored max runs and then usual story . Even the tail-enders scored lot of runs in the match . When a team visits India first instruction to curator prepare turning wickets from ball one -so the spirit is to make outsiders aboslutly non performers . The strategy is simple - ame the bowlers ineffective with no swing or speed and batsmen look like novice all the time .Things will change - we all know the successful strategy is kill time and then play ,get set before attacking

IPL has given these young cricketers early in their careers good money and it spoiled their game to some extent. But they have played Ranji trophy, India A four day games and Irani trophy etc., to practice longer version of the game. Only the thing required is to guide and coach them properly.

playing county cricket in England
by srirama chandra rao on Aug 20, 2014 04:22 PM

It is a nice idea. Earlier most of our star cricketers used to play for counties in England. It helps them to adopt to those conditions and those pitches. Already Pujara has taken permission to play as he is not in the one day squad

Young players are lured with the money with IPL and it is a 20 overs cricket, adjusting to the test cricket needs solid effort. To some extent IPL is spoiling these young and talented Indian players

Yes I agree that real destroyer of Team India was IPL - whatever the supporters of IPL might say for obivious reasons.Test cricket is hard taskmaster and our present day players are just not interested in it. The best course is to disband IPL - though a tall order - if Indian cricket is to be saved.
