Aged cricketers of around 28-29 yrs of age who have played more than 10 yrs of first class cricket and who have missed the bus earlier appear to be managing with some influence.My hunch is more and more such cases could be expected and the reason could be the lucrative ‘bonus’ entitlement recently announced by Srinivasan to anyone who has managed a Test cap.Evidently at this late age debut the player might not aspire for a big career but is richer by the bonus amount..It is not clear if representing the country in shorter versions too makes him entitle for the bonus. Should the selection be influenced by such considerations other than merit alone then Indian cricket could really suffer. Perception is Umesh Yadav was overlooked for the English tour just to push the cases of Binny, P/Singh etc. and now the team is suffering. It is time for ex-cricketers like Bedi,Prasanna etc., to raise their voice lest it becomes a regular practice.
