You need to understand that Lara was speaking about Sachin's batting and not the team's. Lara said that 241 was Sachin's best innings. He didn't talk about whether the team won the match or not. For eg: Steyn may bowl an excellent spell and still SA may lose. Cricket is never a single man's game.

For your info,if forgotten, Lara's highest score in tests,400 - The match ended in a draw too.
