In this background of failures - -
by Ramesh Yagnik on Nov 30, 2013 10:46 AM

Sachin shines like a Polar Star (Dhruv Tara).
He has played for 24 years - ahd some downs -
some coach tried to finish off his career -
there was so much of competition for the post -
so many expectations to fulfill -
so much of pressures to perform -
But he remained calm - never got involved in
any dirty buiseness - always supported his
team mates to fight off pressures.

--- such a great sportsman ! ! ! !

Fab four - a big thanks
by Narayanan Mahalingam on Nov 28, 2013 09:57 AM  | Hide replies

This player could not stand 5 years of pressure in the international circuit.
The enormity of what Tendulkar, Dravid, Laxman and Ganguly must have gone through really sinks in after this episode.

Narayanji, not only the Fab-Four... Even players like Ishant Sharma are heavily criticized and their performances are dissected by our arm chair experts (including me & you).. But the expectation of any cricketer is not to show his weakness (physical or mental) on the field, which I feel Indian players have been doing exceptionally well.

everyone goes through the low patches, I am sure the great four also did. But we have a habit of putting up with them even at the expense of the country's reputation! Some of the political families and leaders, including a former prime minister of our country had depression.

We have to allow those who suffer not to feel shameful and seek help. I truly wish the greats of our cricket will be able to handle the desolation of staying away from the field. Post retirement is the most vulnerable stage, and that's why some people pass on so quickly !

Too Honest
by Ratnam N on Nov 28, 2013 09:19 AM  | Hide replies

I think he is too honest to say that he was not 100 percent fit to play. He should have taken inspiration from our Bharat Ratna who continued to play matches after matches even though everyone was sure that he was not 100% fit.

how can you be so sure whether he is 100% fit or not?

Here all people are talking about mental health being 100% fit not physical.

A soldier is the one who is fit to fight even though he has 20% body part left in his body.

Sachin is a true soldier who never let his team's battlefield occupied by intruders!!

Sachin tula - maajha Salam aahe!!

soldier?? pls dont insult the armed forces by comparing them with cricketers.. cricketers have pressure, so do normal employees in Sales, IT, Banks.Agreed its a special skill but not something like a service to a nation e.t.c.

I surprise...During the 1995-2005 period when Indian team was heavily dependent on Sachin, he might have suffered a lot of mental stress. yet he was successful and consistant. Never seen to have affected those kinds of mental problems or not.. who knows. I think sachins contribution is really great on viewing such aspects and can be considered as most temperement batsmen in world. These fellow cricketers are cowards to face the real situations and seemed to have run away.

Vijay das, i agreee sachin is great batsmen ..but we are not dependent on sachin once we got dravid, laxman, ganguly, viru etc..cricket is not a one man game ..even if dhoni, kohli scored 200 ..we have ishant who can give 30 runs in a over ..it is always a team game..

Yes, Indeed, even ganguly, Laxmon..most specifically Dravid, dhoni and now kohli,shikhar...and a lot of them has been being dependent and responsible. I took the case of sachin as an example to compare with the players who retire because of mental stress.
