Kohli equals Viv's record
by Akashbani on Nov 22, 2013 01:30 PM  | Hide replies

The comparison ends there. Thequalituy of bowling tnat Vi (or for that matter, Gavaskar) faced were notches above the current bowling standards in all cricket playing nations... don't make any comparison...they were class apart.

Agree. When people say Sachin was a better bat than Sunil Gavaskar my blood boils. Sunil negotiated the most fearsome fast bowlers without any protection. Who can forget the 1971 test series in WI when India won for the first time a test series in WI?

Yes, Sunil Gavaskar even batted through a full innings of 60 Overs to score 35 runs! He was simply fantabulous!!!!

It is foolish to compare batsmen (people in any walks of life, for that matter) from different eras, and make your blood boil! The environments, situations, motivational factors etc were vastly different then! Stop comparing Sachin to Richards and Gavaskar, et al, and check out how he fared in comparison to his contemporaries!

And for the benefit of those of you who were too young to understand/follow cricket during Sunil Gavaskar's playing days, please be aware that even he used to be dubbed as 'ver hyped' by many Indians ("Indians"!) in comparison to batsmen from earlier generations - like Sir Don Bradman, Hanif Mohammed, Victor Trumper, Graeme Pollock, Sir Len Hutton, Three 'W's' and many others!!!! It has always been a "fashion" amongst Indians, as it seems to be even now, to find weird reasons to dub anything "Indian" as worthless!!!!

I liked watching Sunil. Sachin is more attacking and harder hitting than Sunil. Sunil was never a succesful one day batsman. Sachin can take many great bowlers to the ropes at will.

Sachin is clearly a step above Sunil. Waqar, Wasim, Steyn, Hadlee, Merw Hughes and McGrath are not the lame bowlers you come across. He has belted them all over on his day. Sunil never attacked the bowlers like Sachin did.

Guys, If you dont know Gavaskar adapted his game to shorter version after world cup win so well he overshadowed the over hyped srikkanth in a one dayer. Gavaskar was better than tendul. See no white washes when sunil played but 2 ww in 2011!!!

Answer my simple question? Did Gavaskar or Vivian Richards choose their bowlers? If yes, Kohli is very bad my dear friend. If not, think before writing some nonsen*e like this.

Very Wierd Logic. When you are comparing two things you have to look at the data, and it has to be naromalised as per conditions. These days when a b'man can score almost a doube century in 20 overs. While 120 used to be difficult enough to scroe in 60 over match. So by this logic if a B'man scores 100 runs these days should be considered as 20 runs.

at the end of 120 ODIs

Kohli has performed exceptionally well and far superior to record master. At this rate, just another 10 years is enough for Kohli to overtake selfish master.

Just 2 or 3 years to brand Kohli as selfish

I think you have not followed Kohli. Kohli, from Delhi, was very open in appreciating Rohit Sharma, from Mumbai, as a good captaincy material.

So? What's so great about that? Have you forgotten that Sachin had stepped down from captaincy as he and his fans felt that he was not performing well as a captain? I would like to see Kohli (I am a fan of his batting, which is world class, no doubt) tell BCCI to make Rohit the vice captain in his place!
