Australia won it back in the next edition played in england in 1999. And which match you are referring to when you say that sachin helped us to save the match agianst pakistan in chennai.. There was one famous match against our arch rivals in chennai, in which he played a great knock but as usual failed to get us past the target line which we went on to loose it by a narrow margin
As a batsman, sachin was always a better one day player than a test player. There are very few test records of him, for others to feel envy about... But in one day cricket, it has to be said that he has played some memorable knocks has contributed immensely in redefining the way it was played. It was he and not jayasuriya, who started taking the attack to the opposition in the first 15 overs. Jayasuriya famously did it in the 1996 world cup but sachin came as an opener in the 3rd or 4th match against newzealnd played in their country and hammered a 41 ball 82. Sachin 41 ball 82 against newzealand was played in 1994 which i forgot to mention above... So the trend was started by him 2 years before jayasuria famously did in in the 1996 world cup
Even i am an ardent fan of sachin and my fav innings is also sharjah one...but there are 2 corrections which has to be made...when india won in sharjah aus were not world champions...in chennai match sachin didnt save the match we ended up losing..although sachin on his part played an absolute blinder no second thoughts abt it
