It really depends whether Ashwin can maintain the same record overseas. If he can, he will undoubtedly be one of the best all rounders to play this game.
This is a good beginning for Ashwin but cannot be compared so early to greats like Garfield Sobers or Ian Botham. He could perhaps do well in future too if he worked more on his physical fitness.
For a while, some sections were crying fowl on Ashwin. Not a great athlete like Sobers or Kapil, slow but steady, Ashwin is proving his worth in the team more than any other allrounder.
Some of batting videos of Ashwin show how orthodox and straight he plays both spin and fast. He waits for the ball that turns or swings, and is crafty on his backfoot. He also has very good timing with his strokes. He is in for a long haul though some Northies in the forum have cried for his blood.

Aswin is just a good kid. If you listened to his parents on TV you will understand the rules by which he played life. He never gave up on his education. He completed his Engineering degree. We can understand that many children in India do not get the opportunities he had. But he worked hard to be what he is. Doesn't he provide hope to people who can work hard. He learns like a child from others and improves everytime

Divisions have been exploited at every turn. I remember when was stranded in Delhi without knowing the language, one gentleman spoke to me, helped me and saw me only as a fellow countryman. Remember when Kapli's India won in 1983 there existed a temporal feeling of one Nation. I hope these moments are cherished by men. These records are made to be bettered.
Simply unbelievable that Ashwin is being compared so early in his career to Gary Sobers who is considered an all time great legend all-rounder! The other all time greats include likes of Richard Hadley,Imran Khan,Kapil Dev....wonder if the realization has started sinking in given the startling figures that have emerged all of a sudden! Perhaps in One dayers Ashwin is put to disadvantage vis-a-vis ex-payers’ records due to recent introduction of new ICC rules of field restrictions forcing Dhoni to make him a 'containing' bowler rather than try for wickets. In fact this strategy is getting reflected in the latest WI Test series also where Dhoni is using Ashwin to create pressure from one end and take wickets from the other end. As long as the bowler at the other end bowls well and takes wickets as Md. Shami did at Eden Gardens, this strategy is fine. But if the bowler at the other end is ineffective like say Ishant Sharma giving away too many runs then Ashwin will also be carted for lot of runs and the strategy could boomerang. Then Ashwin will become another Bhajji! That is why in Tests at least Dhoni must allow Ashwin full freedom to aim to take wickets rather than trying containing job although in Tests there is more scope for trying variations. Any way our best wishes to Ashwin for completing the 100 wickets in the next match and achieve the double of 1000runs and 100wickets at the earliest.Simply fantastic!

This is how the clerks who claims themselves analysts of the game ruins your day.Imagine Garry Sobers a natural cricketer & unquestionably the best all-rounder to have played game is clubbed with Ashwin who has yet to deliver a single win outside India by his bowling?
