Neeta Kolhatkar, I never chanced upon to read you in the past, though I am a regular visitor of rediff. I wonder, do you have an agenda of what you try to communicate in this piece of article? I found it so disjointed, as if you have written it between several breaks of your routine job and it sounds injustice and undeserving to write about a maestro, in such a loose attitude! Tingo was a great player may be greates till 5/6 years back. All this while he has ben a hype. He toiled hard for his own reputation and money. If he were thinking about the good to the country he would have retired 7 years back.

sachin is an opening batsman.... he dont want to score winning runs to become a hero...for example...in wc2011 final actual hero was gambhir....bt everbody praised dhoni.....and also rohit virat veeeru dhoni all wanted to become cricketers because they grew up watching a hero...gavaskars and kapil were not enuf...

1. With sachin in 90s India was only 5th best team in the world. There were no significant victories for india except in India where Anil Kumble’s heroics won the matches for India 2. Until 90s commercial aspect of cricket was very low and just when sachin made his debut commercials increased and sachin benefited out of this immensely as he was made popular by the media and corporates for their benefit. 3. Thanks to the Indian team of early and mid 80s, cricket became popular in India and Sachin became the beneficiary of this. 4. The other greats of India such as Dravid, Sehwag , youvraj and laxman who produced quality knocks to the Indian side arrived late in the scene by which time popularity was already stolen by this tendu who throughout 90s got knocks that ended in losing cause but did not deter his popularity. 5. Steve Waugh famously quoted, Indians are happy if sachin gets a hundred and the team looses 6. Sachin struggled against quality bowlers such as Mcgrath, Ambrose. Lucky, he never faced West Indian great fast bowlers 7. Most of the knocks of his have come for his records and to please his advertisers at the cost of the team. 8. His much talked about century of centuries too needs to be analysed.The last of this century was made against Bangla Desh and the rate of scoring was so low that we lost to Bangla Desh.What a shame !

On a pitch when pak defended 160 against bangla 2 days earlier, indian bowlers could not defend 290. And yet sachin is blamed solely.
