If Kolkattans_showed same exagerated_enthusiasm in work and economic development,really Kolkata would have become Venice or London of the east.Bengali_people have lot of energy,but it is always used in the wrong purpose.Or else after having so many intellectuals and educated people,why the state is not leading state of India today ? Does it mean education and knowledge is not everything for progress,development and growth of economy ?
It is another silly idol_worship of Indians who like to live in past or whose favourite past time is criticizing or COMPARING others.It is good to honour a hero,but going overboard_is not going to help the common many any way.It only helps a private company BCCI and its club team. Our politicians also equally cheap as we are:

This is a slavish_mentality as we have been slaves_under Mughals_then_british_then_congress.We cannot_stand tall_ourselvs.We must boot_lick some dynasty,be it pawar_abdullah_patnaik_gandhi_gogoi_Devegowda_Reddy..what so ever.
If somebody like Modi_stands on his own feet_we will accuse_Him as communal_Fascist_Feku,etc,etc.Will use all machineries like Congress_Bureau_Of_Invetigation,Indian_Mujahiddin,Paid_Media,etc,etc.
So long this mentality continues,Indian cannot emerge as a healthy_nation.We are sick and we worship_and_play a slave_lazy_game!

Being a Bengali i must admit that what you have said is partially true and well said also..But brother sometimes emotions energy and enjoying for no cause can make a person happy and can find some juice to cheer in life that i think money economy all these financial words can't buy..
Bengal has so so many educated intellectuals all over from the past to recent present is a true fact. i don't know from which state you belong but take your time and think how will it be if you are celebrating and enjoying for the issue which has no connection directly with you. We are doing the same thing--enjoying and celebrating without any direct cause.. After all Kolkata is called the city of joy-
Don't know if there is anything of this sort on the ground. But I have no idea why every media house is overwhelmed with Sachin's retirement ? Move on guys. He's just a cricketer, there are going to be 1000's like him, wait..

Absolutely, there seems to be nothing more to talk about than this.....
This is over hyped. This was not required at all. Media and cricket board has given it undue footage. Sachin puja is nothing but a sign of foolishness.
