BATTING HAS EVOLVED BUT BOWLERS YET TO ADAPT
by damodaran mohan on Nov 03, 2013 04:44 PM

(contd..)The other notable feature of the series of course is much talked about bowlers getting thrashed due to new rules of ICC.But when 38 sixes are plundered in the match and with sixes raining even in earlier 4 matches too one wonders what even 9 fielders outside the circle could have done ? It only goes to show that it is a combination of one, the batting evolving to a new high with innovative attacking batting and two, the bowlers not being able to ‘adapt’ to new rules and bowl in the right areas. It has been seen how Mitchel jhonson and even the Aus spinners looked more effective due to bowling to a plan or bowling a to a tight line and length. Our own Shami Ahmd, Ashwin and Jadeja got the results when they bowled in the right areas towards the end of the series. Even Amit Mishra started well but was not strong enough mentally to sustain the line and length trying too many variations like Ashwin. OK may be it can be conceded that wickets will have to be made more bowler friendly to ensure some semblance of fight between bat and ball.. Any way. as far as series positives for India are concerned Shami Ahmd. Is the latest find besides Rohit Sharma’s re-emergence the way Shikhar Dhwan re-emerged in the last Test series. As far as Yuvi is concerned it is not his low scores but his body language which is not very reassuring.

THE GEORGE BAILEY SERIES
by damodaran mohan on Nov 03, 2013 04:34 PM

So India just about manage to win the series !In fact India was lucky on the day with two freak dismissals of George Bailey and Watson proving to be the turning points. But to the credit of the Aussies and brilliance of lower order batters like Maxwell and Faukner it could have gone either way because the margin of 50 odd runs hardly tell the full story of how close the match and series was! Rohit Sharma finally comes up with his best knock ever –it is not just the 209 runs but the way he got them is simply incredible. I Actually RS stole the thunder from Virat Kohli and George Bailey both whom were front runners for man of the series. Still my man of the series of course is George Bailey, the unassuming but the best emerging Australian cricketer of the day. Bailey’s batting form and captaincy too were major factor responsible for the Aussies’ close fight making it one of the most exciting series seen for long time. The Aus side rarely looked so cohesive and united under Michel Clarke in recent times.Based on his form Bailey is indeed expected to join the Test squad but there should be no doubt it is only matter of time before he takes over as the Aus Test captain too. Bailey certainly seem to belong to the class of other Aus gretas like Stev Waugh, Bill Lawry…..and emergence of Bailey is the best thing that could have happened to Aus cricket.

A greeat knock from Rohit
by Viraf Chinoy on Nov 03, 2013 08:21 AM  | Hide replies

Rohit was magnificent but a few indians will feel bad about OZ. Poor bailey had 1 bad day in office & they lost. Faulkner proved he's too good with the bat once again. I now hope that MSD will allow Rohit entry into the Indian TEST XI finally.
