He meant Nari Contractor , he had a life threatening heat on the head by Charlie Griffith in 1960.
I still remember 1983 final when kapil took the catch to get rid of great viv. we all just were breathless till he took the catch. a very important wicket for the opposition was viv. that much feared he was. But he was a great sportsman and very casual due to his huge talent and literally killed the confidence of the bowler. Really a inspiration for all budding youngsters . Cheers VIV !!

Does Age have anything to do with being a cricket fan? And 1983 was just 30yrs before and this person could still be sub 40, had he been an avid fan of cricket from his school days. In fact, our SRT would have watched this match as a 10 yr old boy. And those watched WI at that time know very well what a great team they were in the 80's. The decline started in the 90s after a series of their good players started retiring. Aussies adopted a lot of aggressive cricket (but not a sporting culture) from WI.
He is the actual GOD of cricket- he is being very humble by saying that because of the emblem he did not wear a helmet. He had the courage ,technic and the talent to face Thommo/Lillee/Willis/Imran/Hadlee etc without a helmet - can you suggest one modern day greats who can do it. No one maaaaaaaaaan- he is the greatest batsman ever-- by a mile.
Sir Vivian Richards mentions that he did not wear the helmet while batting, because the West Indian cap had the emblem of the country on it,and there is a pride wearing it.However here I would like to say ,the helmet too has the country's emblem in front of it.Richards was a genius, a player who comes once in a while,he was courageous, had disdain for the bowlers, infact was ruthless on them, and as written by Botham in his autobiography, that when Richards was in full bloom, none of the English bowlers would have eye contact with their captain Gower-because he could throw the ball to you and your bowling figures would be spoilt by Richard's lashing.Today we have our greatest putting on leg pads, thigh pads, gloves, elbow guards, thigh guards, chest guards, back guards, abdomen guards in addition to a helmet with a steel grill fitted to it.Looks more like an astronaut than a cricketer.Gavaskar who played in the era 1970-90 wore no helmet, only a metallic sort of saucer under his cap/panama hat,had to face the finest fast bowlers ever-Lillee,Thompson,Roberts,Holding,Marshall,Garner,Croft,Imran,Sarfaraz,Hadlee, Willis etc all bowling @145-155 kms/hr. These cricketers had tons of courage they were not afraid to get hurt, would play their natural game. Whereas the present batch of cricketers wear all these protective gear only to escape getting hurt, which would put them out of the game for weeks together, which would come in the way of their getting promos, ramp shows etc.

Todays players wear so much protective gear not from the fear of getting hurt. It is because so much cricket is being made and so much money is at stake, a simple injury will jeopardise many things. Also because of so many games being played, it is so naturual to lose your concentration at some point of time. In 70's till 90's not that cricket was being played. Today, we get to see a competitive match literally everyday.
