He took over the reign's from Kumble in Nov 2008 and INDIA became No.1 on DEC 2009 People present funny arguments attributing to DHONI's credit....in 2008 under Kumble it is the same team with Settled OPENING PAIR (Sehwag/gambhir) in form of their lives...Dravid,LAXMAN & Sachin in good form.....ZAK & Ishanth in form of their lives...with Ganguly also around....its not like T20 or ODI one player on his day will change game.........to achieve this settled combination it takes many years of TEAM gettign together and gelling well as TEAM....

Hello Friend, What is the issue here? Every Indian captain has enjoyed support of fans during their tenure. They have hogged limelight. Be it Gavaskar, Kapil dev, Azhar, Ganguly, tendulkar, Dravid, Kumble and Dhoni. Irrespective of who the captain is, the team wins because of the contribution by both bowlers and batsmen. So, what is your concern? I guess, you as fan should be happy that India won in different eras. All these captains have lost too and really badly. So, try to promote harmony in the discussion board. But, dont insist on divisiveness. What would satisfy you? I hope it is not that Ganguly is re-instated as captain - who might bring back the same team with which he played :). As good as a player one is - time does not wait. It will move and with it the time they hogged limelight. Ganguly has had his time. We all enjoyed it. Dhoni is hogging it when India wins. He gets brickbats when india loses. So, lets just be happy for what we have than what we had.
Wts the output of MSD's statements ... is it Dhavan should have get out after 25 / 30 runs or any new comer should not perform best as it will pressurise Captain as he will not get chance to score runs and so will be overshadowed by young talents..... its a really good way to discourage young talents.

One can find fault wherever and whenever. I believe Dhoni has merely stated the fact that next time Dhawan enters ground, people will sit up to expect another innings of that sort. Do we not expect Chris Gayle to hit six everytime we watch him? or Brendan McCullum? or Michael Clarke to score a hundred every time? These are expectations. I guess Dhoni has stated exactly that. For the next 5 innings, everytime Dhawan walks out, we the fans would expect to see him play a swashbuckling innings like that or give a rousing start. So, Dhawan has to be ready for that mentally. He will fail a few times like anybody, he should not let people expectation be his own. That is the message. Nothing wrong.
He must prove himself on Foreign pitches like in SA OR England before labeling him super star and future of Indian opening pair.Sehwag was far mor destuctive player against far better attack.So let us wait and watch.

Agreed conditions in SA, Eng and Aus are different. But as a international cricketer he has to play well in each of the test matches that comes his way, especially starting out. This hold good for all the Indian players except Tendulkar. But even Tendulkar needs good innings for his confidence.
Ganguly is miles ahead because of his long term impact of his decisions and team building......... As his moves always result in greater impact which will continue into future.... 1. Took reigns of shattered (Match fixing) team 2. Installed fighting spirit (agression) into indian cricket ....still continuing 3. Hand picked few bunch of players from domestic cricket and backed them to core - Sehwag, Yuvraj,Zak,Hbajan......key contributors of W-cup's & TEST NO.1 status 4. Solved INDIA's Opening ISSUE by converting SEHWAG into OPENER......he is the key contributor in INDIA's road to NO.1 5. Moved VVS to No.3 position in our famous Kolkata test then VVS & Dravid went on to win the match from no-where.....this victory changed the FATE OF INDIAN CRICKET 6. Converted DRAVID to keep wickets in ODI, this settled DRAVID in ODI format and went to score 10K runs 7. We started winning consistently abroad TEST's which dravid & kumble also continued....

hahaha There is no comparision between two. Dhoni has proved himself as a active captain, unlike Ganguly success because of other teammates.

Rajesh: What do you mean by active captain...think again...????, ok lets go by your own words...DHONI BROUGHT 2 WORLD CUPS.....not tell me teh contribution of DHONI in these two W-cup (Series) except for Finals where he came ahead of IN-FORM YUVRAJ singh.....his contributions are ZERO with the bat...through out both these W-cup campaingns he struggled as BATSMAN...........coming to Test No.1 he is hardly any contrubutor in TESTS as batsman except rare innings........now repeat your own words HE LEADS from FRONT.....funny isn'nt it....

Mr.Indian GURU: You seem to have poorest of cricketing knowledge...just refresh your mind where does INDIA stand when Ganguly took over captaincy (INDIA rocking with matchfixing scandals) & Dhoni took over captaincy.(INDIA are already on ROAD to NO.1 in test arena).........IPL contributed to rise of ODI standards at the same time drop in TEST format....

Why are we comparing the two? Captains are as good as team. Good Ganguly did well.Good Dhoni is doing well. Both have helped us fans enjoy a few victories. Thanks to both. Leave these kind of comparisons to pundits on television "who earn money" out of this. Let us as fans celebrate game as it is.

Oyyy rinku...wait for next series in SA and then comment....It is easy to push a moving car but the real test for your muscle is to MAKE THE CAR moving from stand still state........INDIAN cricket is in shattered condition when DADA took over captaincy.....INDIAN cricket is already in good shape when DHONI took over captaincy.......the real impact of captain is not about winning cups and winnnig %, but about how you build TEAM for FUTURE....that is where DADA & Pataudi scores above DHONI..........W-CUP's are result of individual brillinace of Yuvraj etc

People were saying that 20-20 cup was fluke...might be ....he proved again himself in WC 2011...he took India 1st in test ranking ... people were saying its only because of senior players....now only a veteran player is playing in the squad... now he is lucky...his luck is favouring... but u should have that courage to say... he is leading from front not by luck...he is the best Indian captain ever...

yes T-20 wcup victory was fluke. It was proved as india lost next 3 t-20 cups with exit in 1st round. Yes 2011 wcup was fluke. it was proved as india washed in ODI series in england, didn't qualify in s/f of aus series,& out in asia cup, home odi series loss aginst pak. Test no.1 was fluke as iyt was proved after loosing 10 out of 13 matches including whitewashes/home series defeat & ranking up to no. 5.
MSD got is own team at last Dravid, Ganguly, Laxman, Sehawag, Gambhir & Bhajji sab ko baja diya Tendulkar ko he can't move, he is a great wall of china in indian team and he has to leave himself. No one will think about him not only for his batting but due to his generosity Vijay, Ashwin, Jadeja jiasa apne dost log ko team mein laya Pujara, Kumar & Shikar came by their talent
