Pardon me Geoffrey - You probably are a little off the mark here :
1. "Written tasks ... Childlike" A firm NO. Why ? It is like creating a "to do list" for the upcoming days/weeks. Even if a player has no new idea(s0 he can write how he intends to elevate his performance. Scope for improvement is existent even to the exalted. The list (Arthur wanted only 3) will help keep one's RESPONSIBILITIES and be aware of one's COMMITMENT. Presentation in a group (as Arthur envisaged) will witness EVERYONE WILLING TO SHARE and LISTEN to WHAT OTHERS SAY. It will clear everybody's THINKING SPOT and get the team ORGANISED. The team COLLECTIVELY will feel they have a MISSION. They will remain highly MOTIVATED. Any excuses to shun the COLLECTIVE WISDOM has to be TORN APART. This is what Arthur did. Every HUMAN endeavor - be it Sports, Industry, Agriculture, Business, Health or Education NOW VALUES and ADOPTS COLLECTIVE THINKING, SHARING VIEWS, and DISCEPTING ALTERNATIVES. New Age Wisdom needs it more - One cannot be still living in 70s and 80s. Sports/Cricket is not an exception. Writing tasks, presenting in a group is not "childish" but legitimate, valid and NEOTERIC.

Contd : Focus, Fire in the belly, No distractions even mild, and Going the whole hog are most needed NOW if they are to redeem their prestige. It needs a COLLECTIVE effort which can emerge from GROUP THINK only. Hence, the call for a PRESENTATION task is perfectly in order. There are other merits which can be discussed some other time.

what a load of tosh. things don't change jjst because times have changed to something more modern. look at all those marketing mantras and management techniques - all buzzwords. the only thing that stays is adapting to the new changing circumstances, and that can be done on field. the guy who performs wins/ earns a place in the side. the current OZ dilemma is that they are trying to be the old OZ team. they have to wake up and smell the beans, no amount of "homework" will help them.
