Comic heroics, below par athletic abilities, very poor fielding and catching skills, himself dropping so many catches in the slips while shouting at others for missing out on faint chances as if others are subservient, record of poor calling and getting the partner run out, carrying the shame of weakness against rising ball all through the career.. the list is too long and should not be repeated too often. Anyway he had contributed to best of his abilities and I respect him for that. Comparing him with someone who has taken the bull by its horns, tamed rowdies, showed rightful place to the fading stars with bloated egos is outright foolish. This is like comparing a spoilt prince with a real hero. Both have their followers though. I fully endorse what someone has rightly pointed out , “india is just too lucky to have him at the helm of affairs”.

Talking of building team!!! It is something which can be attributed to someone whose place in team is beyond an iota of doubt and is not vulnerable to be sidelined. He should not have himself cooled heels outside the team for several occasions. In fact i view his comic heroics as an attempt to save his captaincy. He could survive several occasions of axing simply because he was the captain. In fact he misused his captaincy on several occasions to take bowling when he could not perform with bat. On the contrary we have an exceptional wicket keeping batsman whose place in team has never been in doubt. In fact he only could take the call of resting himself which no so called legends have ever dared to. If at all someone can really have the vision of building a team it can be him.
Laxmans avg jumped to 45 till he retired coz he moved a place up after ganguly retired. Another comparison, Ganguly a pure batsman and a top order player has a avg slightly below Dhoni\'s. Dhonis avg as captain is around 45 while Ganguly\'s is around 35, in tests. Ganguly was a great leader no doubt. He was decent batsman too. 5-11 ratio of overseas wins should be taken with a pinch of salt coz 6 of them for ganguly were against zim and bangla. Also ganguly only won overseas series against pak,when 1 win was captained by Dravid and only 1 overseas ODI series win i.e natwest in eng. Dhoni has won numerous overses odi serieses,including in australia. The saying that Dhoni had better team had highy faulty. Tend,Kumb,Dravid,Zak,Bhajji,viru were in theie best years during gangulys era. Facts could be checked for that. Fact is that,a high class allrounder like Dhoni changed the team for better. Imagine putting Kapil in his prime in this team and the teal wud improve. Getiing batsmen and spinners is rather easy, but getting allrounders and high class fast bowlers is highly unlikely in India. Check history for that. Dhonis legacy is safe,despite his critics and will get only stronger. Aterall he has won everything that is to be won as a captain and a player.

You should be really awarded for writing down the truth here.... I always admire/support Dhoni.... But i guess being from a small town Jharkand he is not liked my many peoples here... Samir: First be clear what you want to compare Batsmanship or Captainship both are two different things.......if you say 5-11 ratio wins against ZIM & Bangla you also need to look at quality of current AuS, SL & PAK are equivalent of ZIM,BANGLA desh of that times....hope you understand beating Aus of 1990-2010 (approx) is not same as beating the current AuS team....
India would realise his worth once he retires. Best one day batsman ever, in india ,in overseas, hes the best. People selectively give examples of him coming up the order, but he has done that only 20-30 times and his average is very high when he does dat. batting up the order is easy but where Dhoni excels is wickets have fallen, he still takes India to victory. His batting average in ODI's is out of this world but his batting average in tests is 40, and he is a wicketkeeper batsman. Look throughout the world and even in history, Test keepers have a 30ish average. Only gilly was 50. Batsmen like sangakarra left keeping in tests and deviliers is thinking the same,althogh he has just taken wicketkeeping in tests because test keeping is a full time job. Add to that pressures of captaincy. I think he hasn't done that well as a batsman overseas in tests but his record is decent. if it karthik or parthiv was keeping we wud do well to get and average of 25-30. The 8-0 loss is coz of the combined fact that the ageing stars could no longer perform in overseas condition(all 5 of them) and Dhonis lack of batting form overseas. When he is batting well,he feels and hes does pull out team from difficult circumstances on his own. He is a much much better batsman than his stats, but pressures of keeping and captaincy means, he sometimes comes out to bat last. Just a cue, a world class batsman like laxman had an average of only 40 coz he was batting at 6 and 7, always below ganguly.
Biggest example: Why did dhoni came up the order in ODI W-cup FINALS????? 1. He is in poorest form in the entire series amoung the team mates...others have already played matching winning knocks in one-or-other matches. 2.He came ahead of Yuvraj who is already in form of his life-man of series
If it is in the best intrest of the GAME(INDIA) yuvraj is the first choice but DHONI only came-up to atleast score few runs on his name
Sorry to speak in this manner but I really believe only DRAVID & LAXMAN play for the TEAM and SCCRIFICE.......no one else INCLUDING MY BEST DADA...one or the other ocassions played for them selves(its my honest openion because DADA is my BEST cricketer)

If due to the players of DADA's team (Yuvraj,Irfan, ZAK) India won the World cup under DHONI's captaincy than why not under DADA's captaincy? Is it proving that DHONI leaded the team better and is better captain????
As players listed responsible for making team no. 1 test ranking were settled in team well fefore DADA's captaincy and played under DADA long time when they all were in best form but Team India could not acieved no. 1 test rankin during DADA's captaincy. In other hand when DHONI take over the team some of the listed player were retired, out of form, unfit but team achieved no. 1 ranking.

Mr.Santhosh: X has planted seeds in his home and later after few years the HOUSE was in-herited to Y by that time TREE GREW UP and started GIVING FRUITS.....now who should get the credit X or Y?
It makes sense that time is required for plant to grow and start giving FRUITS....Yuvraj,Zak,Hbajan,Sehwag are seeds DADA planted......SUCCESS as result of Rjadeja,Rohi,R Ashwin, etc have to be admitted to DHONI if they are consistent in FUTURE
You please answer me one couple of straight questions...
1. What is the position of TEAM INDIA when DADA & DHONI took over captaincy? 2. Under which captain INDIA did start to WIN consistently abroad? 3. Is captaincy only about leading...how about building a team?
4. T-20 & ODI's victories can be fluke with individual brilience but TEST NO.1 requires atleat 5 years of finding right balance in all departments starting from Consistent OPENING, MIDDLE ORDER, BOWLERS who can perform in all conditions....you can no get these right in 2 years (Dhoni hardly less than 2 years of captain we became) means its good work of DADA>DRAVID>KUMBLE ....
You can only attribute TEAM's success to DHONI only IF the current TEAM built by DHONI including Jadaja's,Rohit's

Dada is the good captain who brought in best players for Indian cricket. But Dhoni is the best captain who can transform even an average team to best performing team. Otherwise 2011WC could have only happened in dreams. Australians won three world cups just because of the best team with full of all rounders, no role for the captain, but the Indian team won the world cup without any best players like australia, in which captain has a big role to play.
Y INDIA LOST TEST SERIES AGAINST ENGLAND. Y LOST ODI SERIES AGAINST PAK. IS IT DHONI'S POOR CAPTAINCY OR SACHIN'S FAILURE. ANOTHER PUZZLE, IS INDIA WON 1ST TEST AGAINST AUS BCZ OF DHONI OR SACHIN AND PUJARA, INDIA WON 2ND TEST BCZ OF DHONI OR PUJARA AND VIJAY
For any new good player (bowler or batsman) first 2 years is like Honeymoon period as opposition will not have any plans for you but after few years every player analyzed completely (using technology) now only LEGENDS or quality players evolve themselves continuously to stay ahead........it was clearly evident many a times we have witnessed DHONI struggling against quality bowlers & pacy conditions as HIS TECHNIQUE will not be allow him to be succeed.....
1. HERE IS THE SMARTEST thing done by dhoni by cutting down risky shots against these quality bowlers and picks weak bowlers to HIT.....this has to be appreciated because PLAYER IS PLAYING TO HIS STRENGTHS 2. Now the other move to save himself is moving up/down the batting order MISUSING HIS CAPTAINCY AUTHORITY @cost of other players - Go back and refresh your memories...every time he sees quality bowlers or pacy conditions he drops down to 5/6/7 positions and once he finds sub-continent conditions & decent bowlers immediately comes up the order at 3/4 - How can any one justify these moves. 3. He was able to do these because of the current TEAM as he can efford to take his time to settle down not worrying about RUN RATE (how many times you might have felt DHONI is slowing down the INNINGS recently) - Now look the current team recently you will understand ODI's Sehwag/Sachin, Gambhir, Yuvraj,Kohli,Raina - All these players aggressive & destructive and this is giving time for DHONI to over come his limitation

One more BEST example of DHONI's MISUSE of captaincy.....in last series against PAK..where PAK pacers are creating HAVOC and dhoni inspite of being in BEST FORM compared to his team mates who are failing continuously he only came at position 6 or 7 so by the time ball becomes softer and pitch also eases out which helped him score.......WHY the HECK he did not promote himself this time.......earlier he used to come up the order in every second match.......The reason is simple he was saving himself....any comments or genuine reaons what could have been??????

If in case of Dhoni, u peoples are finding 1000 ways to Yell at him.... why so????? Best Ever Wicket Keeping Captain & Batsman India have ever produced....DO U Agree???...
