Umpires look ok and the DRS back up is encouraging. However two recent incidents i would like to point out. First, in the match Umpire Aleem Dar changed the ball when England were bowling but did not come out with any explanation later on for changing the ball although Bob Willis ,the former England Captain alleged ball tampering. In the semis , total three LBW decisions were given in favor of England against SA. While the 3rd LBW decision was reversed by DRS as the ball had pitched outside the leg stump, even the first two LBW decisions given by Dharamsena were ‘tight’, the batsmen could have got benefit of doubt for ball either drifting down leg or height factor. Possibly as per rule the ball tracking was not shown in replay for the first decision. Regarding DRS it must be admitted that there has been considerable improvement in technology and as far as the hot spot, bat snick etc. the result looks quite accurate. Ball tracking however still looks a bit dodgy on two accounts. One, the accuracy of the path itself and two, the replay at times doesn't look to represent the ‘true’ ball. There has to be some foolproof way of identifying the ‘true’ replay and be sure that the operator is not playing some other replay. This area appears to be still under cloud. Perhaps that is why BCCI is reluctant to accept DRS. In the forthcoming ICC meeting these aspects can be discussed and satisfactory answer sought from the ICC.
