CAN CLARKE & CO. STRETCH IT TO THE 5TH DAY ?
by damodaran mohan on Jul 31, 2013 06:11 PM

So Clarke gets ready for the 3rd TEST battle putting up a brave front ? . Aus fans must be really anxious not sure what more ASHES humiliation is in store and whether Clarke &co.would manage to stretch the match to the 5th day ? Hopefully no 3rd or a 4th day finish ! Hopefull. One encouraging thing for the Aussies is that likes of Smith,Hughes,Khwaja etc. have runs under their belt against Sussex played last week and that should give them confidence to stay on the wicket avoiding an Aussie procession of the top order yet again. Actually it is not just mental problem as few ex-Aus cricketers are suggesting. The problem is more fundamental and that is except Clarke there are no other Aus having the requisite skills of a TEST batter and it will take some time for the youngsters to get in to TEST mould. Blame the BBL , IPL or the excessive shorter version of the game played at home, the fact remains the Young Aussies need more time to become TEST batsmen. In fact Aston Agar, the spinner proved to be their best batter in the 1st TEST! Natah Lyon joining will certainly help the bowling attack but the main problem is that of batting and so Lyon could come in addition to Agar rather than as replacement. England have reinforced their spin attack with Monty Panesar joining GS. Given this background the English fans must be wondering if 5 days season tickets would. be worth the buy ?
