Such repeated failures can't be atributed to just one factor, rather a combination of multiple factors at play.Having to constantly switch between multiple formats certainly is a mindset issue, skills more suited to the shortest format is also not helping in excelling in the longest format.

T20 spoils the technique & also most youngsters are happy with a 30-40 kind of inning. They are unable to bat for long sessions & throw their wicket to reckless shots.Gilly knows where money lies & will never criticize T20.The failure of Raina,Rohit,Yusuf & even Dhoni in longer format is clear case of too much T20(baseball) cricket

pradeep, I agree. I was never impressed by the T20 format anyways. It can be anybody's game. You can never say that the better team won. Its more of gamble. Look at those atrocious shots batsmen attempt in desparation to score runs. And this with the bowler looking helpless and hopeless.
I have started following Test cricket more religiously after being disgusted by the T20 format.T20 format is comedy circus of cricket.
