Impact of T20 on Test Cricket
by Aniket Lal on Jul 25, 2013 11:33 AM

The impact of T20 cricket can be considered as both Positive and Negative . Positive in the sense that fielding levels of all teams , especially Asian Sub Continent teams has improved greatly . On the negative side , IPL has resulted in many modern day batsmen playing more aggressive and lacking the desire to occupy the crease for long durations , which is very essential in Test Cricket . With the exception of few batsmen like Cook , Clarke ,Trott , Kohli , Jayawardene , Sangakkara , Amla and Pujara ,Rohit Sharma there is hardly any other batsman who plays with elegance or grace . This is definitely a worrying sign for test cricket . Another thing is that there is hardly a good fast bowler in International Cricket , with exception of Dale Steyn , Pat Cummins and Umesh Yadav . Before , there were greats like Wasim Akram ,Waqar Younis , Brett Lee , Jason Gillespie , Allan Donald , Ambrose ,Bishop ,Walsh etc .

Nonsense
by Abhay Kumar on Jul 24, 2013 11:05 PM  | Hide replies

Hasim Amla, Jack Kallis, Virat Kohli, Pujara, Joe Root, Cook, Ian Bell, Trott, Clarke, Dhoni, AB Divillers, Shanghakara, Jayawardhane, Ross Taylor, KP, Faf Du plesis, Samuels have shown that they can play all the format well.. If Australian batsmen are not able to play well that does not mean that their batting is ruined because of T 20.

T20 is a comedy circus of cricket.

Its doesn't prove anything about a player's talent, skills or temperament for sure.

Any team can win T20 on a day. Thats certainly not true when it comes to Test cricket. It really grinds players to the core.

Personally victory in a Test match is a lot more satisfying than dozens of T20 games put together.

Embrace change because no one can fight it!

Maybe it is time to innovate further!
T20 for Slam Bang cricket in the evening
50 over ODI for a day or day/night game

and even Test Cricket could be made a faster & sleeker 3 day event with say 100 overs allotted to each team for the first innings and a 50over each team final day to ensure thrills and a result!

The only thing constant about change is CHANGE itself!

Yes T20 cricket spoils the classical batting technique
by Manoj Adwani on Jul 24, 2013 05:01 PM  | Hide replies

Four-Five years back if someone would have told that players like Gambhir, Yuvraj and Sehwag will no longer be in Indian Test as well as the ODI side, would anyone have believed that. No. Yet it is a fact. Yes, Sehwag was never a batsmen with a classical technique, but still with his unique technique was highly successful at the test and ODIs. Gambhir was a classical test opening batsman who played with a lot of patience leaving the balls outside the off stump and waiting for the lose balls to punish. He was amongst the best openers in the world at a very young age. However, now time and again he gets out by playing at balls pitched outside the off stump, a sin for an opener. It was assumed that once the golden quartert of the Indian middle order comprising of Dravid, Sachin, Ganguly and Laxman retired, Yuvraj would straight away walk in and get one of the spots. He did get his chances after their retirement (barring Sachin) but he failed, whereas young guns like Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli who came later on have already made their place permenant in the test side.
Cheteshwar Pujara and Joe Root are classic examples of batsmen who play with a lot of patience and correct technique to succeed in tests, even though they have not played much of T20. On the other hand batsmen like Hashim Amla and Virat Kohli have shown that if you play with the correct technique you can succeed in all forms of cricket and there is no need for improvisation as proper cricketing shots can fetch you a lot of runs.

Yes, cedrtainly T-20 and before that thge 50-50 matches have brought in the notorious innovations and improvisations in batting. High monetary rewards have made the batsmen to play in unclassical manner and this has made them vulnerable before quality bowling. No batsman has the capability to bat through sessions of a test match, barig a very few left.

Introduction of T20
by somachoodan pisharath on Jul 24, 2013 10:44 AM

T20 cricket is very interesting one.But the quality of batsmen and also bowler may come down as this form need big hitting .Definitely the standard has come down but as the time is less for every body now a days T20 will gain more popularity in cricket.

no T20 has made test cricket better
by venkatesh rao on Jul 24, 2013 10:22 AM

We are discussing this solely becoz we see that Aus has gone down. A quality cricketer can play all formats with equal zeal. we see more results in test cricket than ever before becoz of the advent if T20 otherwise you would have had those boring draws.
