Best among the great finishers
by Jomesh George on Jul 13, 2013 02:14 PM

There is no point in comparing Dhoni with the likes of Bevan or Steve Waugh as great finishers of ODIs bcos they could never hit sixes at will like captain cool.Aussies had very good tailenders like Warne,Lee,Bichel,Steve Fleming the time these 2 were playing and they could play big shots to ease pressure of Bevan or Waugh or just stay in the other end as situation demands. But just look at Indian tail enders we have Aswin who cannot run fast between wickets while others struggle to put bat on ball.Klusener was more known for his cameos rather than big scores same as A Razak.Even a Miandad or Ranatunga couldn't finish off matches in the way Dhoni has done it.India's fortunes could have been different in many big chasing matches if Dhoni was there to finish it off.
1.WC SF 1987 vs ENG
2.First 2 matches of WC'92 vs ENG and AUS
3.CT Final 2000 vs NZ
Many other tri nations finals where India were beaten by a narrow margine.

It it leadership? Is it finishing...
by PV KRISHNAN on Jul 13, 2013 02:01 PM

The applause and eulogy that Dhoni is getting is typical of todays media and market driven approach to everything. While Dhoni is undoubtedly a great character and has his own style of finishing, the plethora of analysis and comments from both pundits and public alike makes me wonder...

The worst was Arun Lal during the presentation ceremony... He was trying to please Dhoni to no extent, forcing words into the mouth of other remarkable performers. Likes of Arun Lal and Sanjay Manjrekar are insults to viewing and listening public. Where are the balanced, objective analysis and observations?

A finisher is not one who just ensures victory a la Dhoni style. A finisher is one who understands the contexts, plans ahead and ensures that there is no chance of victory for the opposition. Dhoni did all possible to deny that victory, leaving bulk of responsibility to tail enders. He was very calculative. If won, he gets kudos. If lost, he gets what a great fighter he was standing till end while others were crushed. The chances of India loosing were extraordinarily high than they winning. A leader never allows this to happen. This is the worst form of leadership you can ever witness.

Long live the King!!!

Ashwin, the WWF champion...
by K Ram on Jul 13, 2013 11:09 AM  | Hide replies

With the comfort of having won the tri-series, let us not forget some serious issues with the team. No doubt, MSD is the best finisher on earth and has bailed out the team on numerous occasions. What the other top and middle order batsmen are doing in the team? Why is it left to poor MSD time and again to earn the team a win out of hopeless situations? Why can't the any of the top or middle order batsmen hold one end and play a longer innings? Why are they content making some 30, 40 runs which is enough to safeguard their career? Instead of showering praises on their captain, let them play their role to perfection first!

Having chosen cricket as a career, isn't it wise for Ashwin to workout on his fitness? He needs to shed at least a 10 kgs now or quit from the game and choose a career in engineering. Again, on that day he hasn't bowled even 1/10th of how Herath bowled and yet, what stature he's bestowed upon! Does he deserve it? Is he a strike bowler for us really taking 1 Wkt/match? Does he need to play across to that Herath delivery. Ashwin today is a grossly overrated player and does not have a cricketing brain to play according to the situation.

Aswin should change his action. He is waiting for some fractions of time and then bowling, its really disgusting.Day is not far when hwe will be called to change the action or will be called AS THROW.

Cameo
by Kathir Krishnamurthi on Jul 12, 2013 07:15 PM

People still talk about Miandad's last ball six of Chetan Sharma to win against India. How many times Dhoni has done this cameo act. Dhoni's acts will become legends on its own
