Gavasker the best opening batsman
by ashwin mendon on Jul 12, 2013 08:05 PM

Gavasker played without a helmet against the most potent west indian attack & was rarely caught on a wrong feet which was due to his impecable technique & strong defence.Any one who has played cricket would know how it is to face a genuine fast baller uith out a helmet as one can be killed. Now with the helmets on even a rabbit can appears like a tiger as there is no fear even if he misses beacause as he knows that he is protected.Watch the movie fire in the babylon and one can get an idea as to what it was facing the west indian fast baller,I would rate gavasjer better then sachin as he faced better quality fast ballers with out bouncer restrictions, rgds Ashwin mendon

Ravi ... well when it comes to praising heaps ...... you make it sound as if Rohit Sharma is the next best opener ... Right ..?

no doubt he was the best particularly against pace despite no helmets, favourable rules for bowlers and undeclared noballs from australians

Gooch was never a regular opener. He must have referred to Geoffery Boycott!

Even I feel that Gavaskar, Greenidge, Boycott and Hayden were indded the best openers that we have seen.

Gavaskar was the best opening batsman; agreed. Its because Srikanth was his patner, he used to thrash all the bowlers and take the pressure off.

Mr Sunil Gavaskar is best opening opener in all time to come when he was playing there was no safe guard in the body, that time pace attack of west indies was at it best at time

Leave alone opening At that time no other Indian other than Mohinder and GR vishawanath could stand up to hostile international pace attack Middle order would just collapse after the three got out Kapil was the only one who inspired some hope to the fans Sunny was the the best of all opening batsman

Gavaskar is one of the best opening batsman in the history of test cricket . His technique , temprament , elegance was at its best .He exactly knew where his off stump is ..he ducked under the short pitch stuff with ease , seeing the ball till the last minute .He was very good against the spinners as well using his feet .In short a great opening batsman .
