India's sports culture
by Nikhil Shah on Feb 28, 2013 01:29 PM

It is likely that the fast bowlers are not injured and want to play for the IPL. With all the fast bowlers playing in the IPL because of the cash involved.

If the IPL money causes the BCCI to drop fast bowling option then Umesh Yadav, Zaheer .. all are playing for the cash rich IPL and not the Dhoni Spinning team.

India's needs about 100 billion dollars for Olympic hosts and 50 billion per year on tourism.

The Ministry of Tourism and sports have to intervene so that the BCCI the IPL are in sync

India needs to tax

1. Legal Gambling
2. IPL revenues
3. BCCI tax
4. Foreign coaches ..

Makes sense....

Dhoni destroys 50 million tourists unlike CHINA
by Nikhil Shah (View MyPage) on Feb 28, 2013 11:23 AM | Hide replies

1. Dhoni cannot win overseas, likes spin bowling
2. Fast bowling and Openers are discouraged and fitness issues
3. Our Olympic programs have no money and have fitness issues
4. Since no Olympic medals and no overseas cricket wins
5. Creates problem with TOURISM and IPL money wasted
6. No 50 million tourist market because of no sports culture

Ganguly is neither a test player and had lot of conflicts with the team. Dravid and Sachin was at their peak to earn victories and credits to Ganguly. Ganguly was a useful one day player but had best batsmen in his team and was successful.

Azar built the team, is it ???? I hope you are not serious ! He built a bunch of match-fixers. Sourav lifted the team from the dumps of the Azar and Tendulkar era. He took the team from -10 to 6. For a while it seemed that Mr. Dhoni was taking the team to even bigger heights. But the bubble has burst after the 8-0 whitewash in England and Australia.

Dhoni is the greatest captain
by Gurjot Singh on Feb 27, 2013 01:24 AM  | Hide replies

True indication of greatness is how you face adversities. India was down on its knees and now this amazing recovery. Dhoni has led by example. He is the greatest captain ever. Just remember how we were humiliated in England and Australia. I guess we just have to trounce South Africa to be recognized as #1 test playing nation again. Too bad that we will have to wait a while before we face them.

dhoni is a better player and captain than Gann-dooly. A better captain because Gann-dooly had the luxury of a team with some of the best batsmen and good bowlers while dhoni has a team which is average at best. and a better player cos ganguly was a selfish player while dhoni is a team player. The only people supporting gaan-dooly are my fellow bongs simply because of their parochial nature. All other indians realise that ganguly was a vastly over hyped and just above average cricketer.

most bangalis todays might be lazy and parochial but thats not true of all bongs. Think of Swami Vivekanada, Tagore and so many other national figures. It is sad that we have not reached so low that we have to make a hero out of an average and selfish player like ganguly (who couldnt face fast bowling) and our parochialism has reached such heights that we defend mediocre players and even boo our own national team just because a non performing bong was dropped.

People want to see overseas comparison...
by Anurag Rathore on Feb 26, 2013 03:44 PM  | Hide replies

1.Both Ganguly and Dhoni has won 3 overseas series. Ganguly won against Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and Pakistan at the other hand Dhoni won against Bangladesh, Newzealand and Westindies.
2.Ganguly lost 4 test series overseas while Dhoni only 2. Ganguly lost against Srilanka, Westindies, South Africa and Newzealand. Dhoni lost against England and Australia.
3.Dhoni's team got whitewashed twice against top teams of the world England and Australia. Ganguly's team got whitewash against bottom test team Newzealand. Ganguly's team faced humiliation defeat against Zimbabwe.
4.6 out of 11 overseas victories of Ganguly came against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.
5.Ganguly has the India's all time best test team. At the other hand Dhoni is leading an aging side without Kumble, Srinath and Ganguly.

even the win v Pak in Pak, Ganguly was captain for only the last test. Dravid led India in the 1st two tests.

Your analysis make sense statistically but only point to be noted is that Ganguly rebuilt the team combination that was fragmented after match fixing debacle and started winning habit overseas which was never there (there were wins in Eng, WI, Aus even if the series was not won) Agreed the players of calibre Kumble, Ganguly and Srinath were missing in Dhoni's team but again new people came up like Aswhin and don’t forget VVS Laxman and Dravid had some best of years in 2009-2011.
My assesment Dhoni is more calculated skipper playing to his strength whereas Ganguly is more inspirational leader
