One point...
by Manu Punnoose on Feb 26, 2013 12:00 AM  | Hide replies

The pitch in Chennai in its own is not at all a rank turner. It was made to be one. Those who argue that the Aussies and the English 'prepare' green tops when the Indians visit those countries must understand the fact that the pitches prepared by the ECB and CA for that matter are not 'doctored' pitches. Traditionally the pitches in England and Australia have certain characteristics and they seldom change as per the needs of the home team. The one at Lords or Headingly swings, and those at Perth and Gabba are quick. Sydney spins and Leeds seams..!!! But in India, the nature of the pitches are changed according to the orders of the captain or the BCCI. Its beyond doubt that Chepauk in its original form is a sporting track, but the BCCI and the the team management seems not confident enough to look at the challenge in the eye..

Agree. With paltry sum curators are following instructions from their bosses to prepare pitches that suits them best. These curators are Maali, 5th grader, beedi smoking chap not a professional soil scientist obeying order from 10th grader. Worse is ill preparedness of any overseas tour. BCCI should have balls to release footage of net practice. Ashwin and other will throw at 150k's to star batsmen.

Vs Pak we saw the results. The ball was flying and seeming, and our countrymen were ducking for cover. I am glad they slowed down the pitch although the bounce was still high which probably suited both Ashwin and Dhoni. In fact even Moises, Pattinson and Clarke liked it, so the pitch probably wasn't the factor.

What the heck???
by Manu Zach on Feb 25, 2013 11:42 PM  | Hide replies

India might win this test and the series too. But why always provide under-prepared pitches and play 3 spinners?? Then why on earth are the so-called pace bowlers included in the team? Now. Dhoni made a double century against the Aussies on this track. I don't think he would have scored more than 2 runs, had the pitch been even remotely close to a sporting one.. So sad to see the mindset of the BCCI and the players..

To be fair last Dec, on the same ground vs Pak when the ball was flying and seaming Dhoni played a classic knock.

Given credit when due

All credit to Dhoni and co to pull this one off. But this is on home soil and everone is tiger in their backyard. If he can perform the same way in South African and Australian pitches then it will be something noteworthy. Its amazing how after Warne there is no decent spinner in Australia. If Swann and Panesar were bowling on this pitch on 4th day India would have been 100 all out.

Surprising how a wicketkeeper is scoring runs but the main batsmen like Sehwag and Murli Vijay and Jadeja have failed badly.

rediff reporting.
by vinay on Feb 25, 2013 10:36 PM

"Once Starc was gone, Australia still needed 17 runs to avoid the follow-on"
so rediff wanted to give ausis 3rd innings in the test match.

India are back
by Gurjot Singh on Feb 25, 2013 10:24 PM  | Hide replies

We are again at the top. Aussies are no match for us. We are the world champions in ODI and we have the best T20 cricket that everyone envies.
In test arena only South Africa is in the same league. Clash of the titans between SA and India is something to look forward to.

Pattinson was playing music into batsmen's ears with bouncers. Ishant isn't a fast bowler so why blame the pitch. If only Aus had another Pattinson or Clarke or Moises the story would be different.
