Aswin did same thing vs England during 1Test
by DrAnirvinna chivukula on Feb 23, 2013 08:59 AM  | Hide replies

Aswin did exactly similar kind of performance vs England in Ahemadabad then he was treated like a net bowler and struggled to get wickets in remaining 3 wickets. Dohni played him as a batsman in remaining tests hahahahaha

Wonder why we treat bowlers so shabbily. Atleast bowlers had to bowl to Alistair Cook, what excuse did Indian batting stars have to fail? They failed miserably giving no chance for Ashwin and Ojha. And yet we have pretty much the same batting lineup!

Awful selection
by chatter on Feb 23, 2013 08:24 AM  | Hide replies

Just unable to fathom why Ojha got dropped. He was the most successful bowler against England. How can Jadeja's selection over him be justified ? How can a team succeed with so much of cronyism and favouritism going on .. and so openly ?

Hard to say that Ojha was a success, in last 3 tests he took only 11 wickets. But the guy has potential, has to be groomed. Dhoni was forced to take Harbhajan just because of pressure. And to compensate an extra batsman Jadeja had to be brought in.

Even if one ignores his 70 & 90, Ashwin's 10 wkts in 3 matches (that we lost) should count for something esp because the most "successful" was Ojha with 11 (4 wkts / test). And put in perspective against what Bhajji has done in last 15 tests (3.6 wkts/ test)

Great Ashwin
by original on Feb 23, 2013 05:32 AM

Steyn took 11 wickets against pakistan and won the match for him. his comments were "You know it is one of those day where everything falls in place for you." Look at our great spinners comments the way ball was coming out of my hand i thought i can take 10 wickets blah blah... Dude this is tailor made pitch for spinners and little bit humility wont take much away from you. Like ur now failed pal bhajji u believe in blowing ur trump all the time. learn some humility from kumble and 10 wickets will come and go. Thanks to bcci's biased selection process ppl like u , rohit sharma, murali vijay, gambhir, shewag are having such a long rope. on the contrary ppl like mishra, jaffer, ojha have to toil so hard and still1 mistake they are done for their life.

It is tendulkar's fault that aus managed such a score. If tendulkar was not playing we would have bundled aus for less than 200. Wonder when the old man will retire.

We will bundle Aussies out for 350 or so. India can bat for two days and score 450 plus. Ashwin will bundle the Aussies up and India will win the match

R. Ashwin say: "I have grown up on this ground. I have played a lot of IPL (Indian Premier League) matches here (for Chennai Super Kings), a few one-day internationals and one T20 internationals." Home ground advantage. Politics even in ground selection and promoting Ashwin. Bhajji bowled 19 overs against 30 by Ashwin, and 24 by Jadeja. Both blue eyed bowlers of Dhoni and Srinivasan. One can draw many conclusions from this.

Dude, you seem to suggest that Bhajji didnt get wickets because he bowled "only" 19 overs. The truth of the matter is that Bhajji was so harmless and never looked like getting a wicket. Dhoni removed him after giving him way too many overs. (4 runs per over on Chennai pitch and not looking like getting a wicket is not something u expect from an experienced bowler playing his 100th match). Dude, wise up, there is no politics involved. AShwin proved his worth by taking 6 wkts, Jadeja has more work to do, but BHajji has nothing to show for.

Unnecessary pressure
by BGK on Feb 22, 2013 10:12 PM  | Hide replies

That he even that it would be his last match, at such an young age, shows the unfair pressure he is under. I wouldn't blame it straight on his being a CSK player. But reality is we treat bowlers very unfairly. 4 matches 14 wkts and despite scoring valuable runs, and 50 wickets in 8 matches prior to that! Come on when Sehwag, Gambhir, Yuvi, - why even Sachin and Dhoni etc can fail for years, why are we not allowing the same long rope for bowlers? Fact is even Kohli and Pujara are not the great successes they are made out to be- they have potential sure. Why not allow bowlers the same space to mature?

agree. bowlers r discarded sooner but batters get life inspite of so many failures. one cant drop a batsman for a single failrue in a test but u vl see bowler discarded for failure in single test!

Totally agree mate. Wicketkeeping and bowling are thankless jobs in Indian cricket. Gambhir and Sehwag had an extended bad run for 2-3 years, and yet Ashwin (who was man of the series against WI in 2011, NZ in 2012 and ROUTED England in the only test match they won last series, not to forget his hundred and 3 fifties while batting) is being held a scapegoat. Unnecessary pressure.

Re: drop harbhajan...
by Anwar Ali on Feb 22, 2013 11:03 PM
Yes, we in India keep harping about the lack of young talent in spin bowling, and yet we revert back to "spent forces" like Bhajji who is well past his prime. He was a good bowler long time back, but these days only his loud mouth is on overdrive, not his bowling. Drop Bhajji and invest in youth like Ashwin, Ojha, R.Jadeja, Harmeet Singh etc. History shows us - Maninder Singh, who was a decent spin bowler played his last test in 93. Selectors dropped him and invested in young Kumble, and see what he did against Eng in that series. We tend to be too harsh on youngsters like Ojha and Ashwin and too lenient towards oldies like BHajji

had it been ohja yesterday, we could have finished ausies by 250! Bhajji might take some tailenders in second innings but if he had talent he would have supported Ashwin yesterday. Its time to throw out bhajji!

Bhajji in last 15 tests took 3.6 wkts/ test. And Ashwin took 3.3 wkts in his worst 3 tests , out of total 13 tests. (Ignore Ashwin's best tests 65wk/10 tests) Draw your own conclusions!
