No guy says he is performing for records. Dragging his career to win a world cup (if his body permits) is also for personal records (on a fair note).. Look, even I can speak like you :)

so what personal record u mean to say? if he really wanted personal record, he would have played for more tests to break pontings record mainly when he is just 90 runs short

being a part of a world cup winning team is greater than these useless records which are bound to fall someday :)

and kiran, he was not 90 runs short. He was a full 2600 odd runs short. It would take him atleast 2 years and a couple of friendly visits from Indian bowlers to beat that record. While doing that, he would have missed out on WC. So, it is the right decision. Instead of worshiping an SRT or JK for every act they do, it would be nice if someone saw sense in it :)

#Kallis is, and will always be one of my favorites of the game. Nothing against him.

Well said. SA will not win 2015 WC either. You already clarified that Kallis is going to score less than 20 runs each match and take one wicket every third match. ;-)

Leave it to Mumbaikars for chasing personal records - they never know when to quit and spoil the chances of many youngsters...

Kallis played for 18 yrs. must have spoiled the chances of at least 24 young players.

Kalli's retirement
by Ravi Shankar on Dec 31, 2013 10:27 AM  | Hide replies

He is a fool. He should have taken a que from Sachin.

1. don't care for your critics even though they are right.
2. dont bother about your performance or fitness. Keep only your target records and income from ads in mind.
3. force your cricket body to retain you in the team till you want to quit and arrange for home matches against weak teams.

If he had done it for some more time he would have broken sachin's record of both runs scored as well as number of centuries.

One small change, if SRT was able to score centuries he would have definitely played longer.

It was greatness of Kallis to say "It is difficult to break Sachin's Record."
54 Centuries in 166 Tests where as 51 Centuries in 200 test by Sachin. Had Kallis played 34 more test It is for sure to breakk 51 Centuries.

that is why he continues in odi format and snatches a youngster's deserving chance.

If u r not fit, u cant play in ODIs - but in Mumbaikar's case, fit or not, he would have continued to play till he cudnt move his feet or blackmail the nation to give him Bharat Ratna so that he will quit the game !!

That is the worst part of Indian cricket. Dravid's catching ability, Laxman & Sachin's reflexes/feet movement were at their worst post world cup.
