First, I guess, the one player to have scored century in the first and the last match is Greg Chappel. (If I am wrong, sorry).
As regards the tag '4th South African cricketer to score century in the last match' I have reservations. The last match of the other three batsmen - Lee Irvine, Pieter Van de Bijland Barry Richards (too great a batsman alongwith Gream Pollock, who could have virtually created all conceivable batting records) - was not of their choice and predecided. Due to apartheid, they could not continue their test career. If we frame records in that fashion, even the test discards, dropped players, one match wonders may also qualify for many records, which is not fair and there is no meaning for such statistics. Whatever it is, Kallis was a great cricketer. He could have walked into any team in the world, purely as a batsman or a bowler, his alround ability simply takes him notches above many of his peers. He is the best allrounder of this millennium.Salutations, Kallis.

Azhar and Greg Chappell come to mind. But difference is Greg knew he was retiring but Azhar was caught in the match-fixing scandal after his 99th test, in which he had scored a 100 and his career ended abruptly.
Kallis must have embarassed the BBCI and the Marathi politicians of all hues... they raise the hype of Tendulkar thought he should have been replaced by an younger feet 2 years back (irrespective of the runs he has scored on the flat Indian pitches and against weak bowling sides).... Gavaskar might be wondering what wrong he did for his quiet leaving the scene...

I guess its Become a fashion to critise Sachin. If we consider Australia and England to be the 2 best sides kallis feced in his Career,Plz check his stats against this 2 Teams.Kallis is great but how justified it is say Sachin was not.Any1 who watched cricket from early 1990's would understand what Sachin did for the game.Ya but most commenting are the same people who critises the Game itself
