He does not need to be recognised by the BCCI
by Hari Vidhyadharan on Dec 18, 2013 08:21 PM  | Hide replies

Honestly i feel like laughing. The BCCI got recognition among the masses coz of this man. He is the greatest cricketer India has produced. Repeat- the greatest Indian cricketer. He is the prime reason that the BCCI is so cash rich now. He may not have so many records under his belt, but one can say with open heart that this man played selflessly. The only record that he played for during the fagend of his career was to become the highest wicket taker in the world. But can anybody honestly blame him for that? Cricket may be a religion in india now. He was a missionary who took the religion to the people. If Sachin Tendulkar deserved a Bharat Ratna, this man deserved it even more. I salute the greatest cricketer of our country.

You are very very right. The present craze for cricket started after India won 1983 World Cup. The root cause of that Memorable Victory was Kapil Dev the Great. Had he not played so courageously against Zimbabwe by scoring 175 runs we should have been out of the Tournament. BCCI should have honoured him much much earlier to many others in the list. Kapil is a true selfless cricketer who played only with the National Spirit.

Totally agree...He was the original warhorse for India. Played 131 matches without getting injured in 16 years...amazing. Could rely on his bowling, batting and fielding...never got run out in tests! Can't forget the 129 he scored in SA when India was in dire straits....this was a year after he had crossed 400 wkts in tests. Such was his commitment.
Not to forget the crucial runs and wickets in the 1983 WC. And the outstanding catch to dismiss Sir Viv in the final. We salute you, dear Paaji!
