Kapil Dev is one of the most natural sportsmen India has ever had. He had a knee surgery in the early 20s, and still went on to play for another decade, hardly missing a match due to injury. His humility is so apparent. A few changes in the team would be Kapil himself for Srinath, Dhavan for Azhar and Sandeep Patil for Harbhajan.

Yeah. All the achievements of a professional gets nullified within seconds as soon as he is proven guilty of match fixing.

True. But like Dhoni said some time ago some players are slightly weak mentally....
Kapildev was right in saying WI was a better side. On a given day, anything can happen in the ODIs-it needs guts and holding the team from dithering. Getting good players is easy but getting them play together is the hard part. A good leader makes the ordinary people achieve extraordinary results. This is what Made the Kapils's devils win the World cup in 1983.
It was a stupendous achievement . It was in a foreign country and not doctored home pitches and a large number of average players -it was a passion and determination

Really, define "doctored" please!! I suppose according to you, any pitch that turns is "doctored", and any pitch made by white man is an angelic pitch!!
Kapil Dev stated the obvious. Although West Indies were a great team, their was an air of arrogance and they totally under estimated Indian team. That proved their downfall.
Kapil Dev,to me, was the man who revolutionized Indian cricket!A role model for those who followed cricket with intensity. His out swingers, length, yorkers, and batting ability was peerless! What I think a rare birth! He is a man for all seasons.Above all,he is true all-round hero!Prof Jaydeep Sarangi/poet-academic fromKolkata

The only person who can be attributed to revolutionizing Indian cricket is SUNIL GAVASKAR. Not only he was a great batsman but a great sportsman. His efforts paved the way for CASH for the players .

vedantpatil, Then why India kept loosing series after series till the time Ganguly took over as captain of Indian team?
I was under the assumption that Cricket is a professional sport and not a charity event, or is it?

thats not correct...we may have been losing series after series under sachin but not under azhar...he was a successful captain and in fact he won many odi series and tournaments while under ganguly we lost of series after series and many finals in odi format....

@Vedantwpatil, Nothing can be more stupidity to say Gavaskar was a great sportsman. Or, you must be kidding.
WI are always a one dimensional team. With a bunch of stylish and brutal stroke players and bowlers with raw pace.In 70s and 80s no other team could compete them on these aspects and that made them world champions.Even now also they have batters like Gayle,Samuels,Darren Bravo and furious fast bowlers like Edwards,Best,Roach and Holder. But the difference is the inconsistency of present team compared with the team of Greenidge,Richards,Loyd,Marshall,Holding etc.Talking about 1983 India were multi dimensional than WI with allrounders swing bowlers and spinners which is an advantage in ODIs.WI fumbled under pressure as they lost too many wickets at mid way and that resulted in their downfall.

With due respect Jomesh George...That man Kapil Dev was the first Indian to lift a cricket world cup for India. so if he say WI were a better team ..just respect it :)

mentioning "edwards, best and roach" in the same sentence as "Marshall and Holding" is a travesty of history.

Except for the fact that they lacked a spinner, there was nothing unidimensional abt WI. They had different styles of players. Even in the bowling dept, Holding, Garner, Marshall all had different styles
