If you want to use DRS
by two paisa on Sep 01, 2013 12:07 AM

It should be used fully. There is no point in saying that there are just 2 unsuccessful referrals. Use it always, and even if there is no referral, if there is an incorrect decision, it should be overturned.

We cannot and should not be considering things like the slowing down of the game, or the downplaying of role of umpires, etc. If you are going to use technology, use it.

This becomes even more relevant, because there are enough times when the technology shows that the decision is iffy, but the on field umpire's decision will stay. Why should a team lose out on an appeal when there is a genuine doubt?

It is these sorts of things that the ICC needs to sort out. Ensure that the technology becomes so effective and fast that it can be used literally instantly, for every decision.

Just think about it - an over lasts for about 4 minutes, and the ball is in play for less than about half that time. The remaining time, the bowler is walking back to his mark, there is change of fields, and things like that. If we cannot do a quick replay in 20 seconds per ball for each ball, what is the use of this technology?

JUST THINK
by madanmohan siddhanthi on Aug 29, 2013 04:15 PM  | Hide replies

If human race was waiting for perfection - we will be still using bullock carts and stones . See the mobile technology what was the first mobile and what is today ! if people had the same attitude perhaps humans will still be eating raw meat like predated human. For fools let me Repeat P-D-C-A cycle .It is fools who will not try new things or wait perfection . Let those brilliant people answer one simple question - has DRS helped correcting 50 % of the decisions or not .These are issues and problems - one of the reasons is the money to be paid for using the technology .Is cricket not having enough to pay them .Only reason I find is your betting mafia can play on umpires -not necessarily for money umpires can be forced to give decision under cohersion .Try and improve the technology that is the challenge for intellectuals let boards mind their business not poke on technology which they know nothing about .Is DL system perfect ? why are we using it ? what about something developed by an Indians ? why did you not try it out ?

LBW is questionable
by Sunil Bhandari on Aug 29, 2013 11:28 AM

If a ball is headed towards stumps and any part of batsman's body comes in the way, before touching the bat, it should be given out. Why the ball has to pitch in line with the stumps and although it pitches marginally out but is heading for stumps, batsmen should be given out. Why complicate?

Inconsistency
by Vik on Aug 28, 2013 11:34 PM

Aussies didn't play like themselves, but there were a lot of decisions that went against them that shouldn't have gone that way. Technology should be used to bring consistency in decision making , not to confuse a set of players. If some other technology were to be used alongside DRS, then it would have been better to officially include that then leave the players high & dry.

DRS rarely err, its more of human (Umpire interpretation) errors
by vaibhav kumar on Aug 10, 2013 11:30 PM

DRS is a good tool like any tool that we use to make our live simplier and faster as on today.

People oppositing should not use internet, mobile & other gadhets, as they might also go wrong, if not fed or programmed or used properly by the end user.

BCCI's objection to DRS is more of a prestige issue, where they did not use their brain in Srilanka tour, and got excited for each & everything, & used it pathetically, & got humuliated.

I still feel that people from sub-continent will find it tough to use as the average IQ we have is shed lower than Au-Eng-SA.

Moreover, Umpiring hollowers recently made it look like a villain. DRS in its purist form is a welcome addition, the only concern is that UMPIRES should talk more when it is referred and there have to be more documented possibilities being worked out in writing, so they take consistent decision.

For BCCI though, they are fine as long as the world cricketing stadard is mediocre, as they will rule the world. Just let the world of cricket again have Warnes, Akram, Waqar, Ambrose, Mushtaq, Macgrawth, and India will return to where they were few years back. With DRS or no DRS.

The DRS controversy.
by Lakshminarayanan Ramachandran on Aug 10, 2013 06:52 PM  | Hide replies

The DRS use since the last 20/30yrs has
without doubt definately reduced the OVERALL
umpiring errors since the 70s/80s, but the
current DRS needs tweaking to make it near
100% perfect, which is not true at this moment. The technology also needs to be
continuously tweaked to make the technology
100% perfect.

Two teams In game of cricket are always crying when they Lose. 1. India 2. Australia. There media making big stories.
If Aussies would have won Ashes, then there will no hue and cry. Since they are most arrogant They could have said what will have changed? your best bastman survive wrong call? I will be out in next over. So no sympathy for Aussies cheers up DRS KP Broad And COOK? Clarke better luck next time
