Sehwag

Michael Hussey is correct in his assessment. People must not play around with world record holders in any field. BSir Donald Bradman, Brian Lara, Chris Gayle and Virender Sehwag are the only batsman who have two triple hundreds in their carrers (a 400 in the exceptional case of Lara. On top of it, Sehwag has a 293 and missed the third triple hundred like Sir Don (ran out of partners at 299 against South Africa). Virat Kohli is a new player, and of course he might be shaped and polished into a world-class batsman in the near future. Sehwag is an opening batsman like Gavaskar, and has good innings against blistering pace (South Africa and Pakistan). Suresh Raina and Rohit sharma have been given too many chances without proving themselves. Sehwag's situation is analogous to a double Nobel Prize winner like Marie Curie (Phy and Chem), John Bardeen (Phy), Frederick Sanger (Chem), and Linus Pauling (Chem and Peace, but actually for DNA work). All others are single Nobel winners or candidates for the future. There rests my case.

Nobel prize analogy? Are you so desperate to establish your pseudo credentials that you latch on to the first topic you see on rediff or are you by nature a little queer?

Of course this is T20 Season. Player like Viru is utmost needed for Indian Team. There is no other pinch hit opener is available right now. One or two innings failure does not make any difference. The performance of 1 day is the match winner. Mind it he is also a superb match win bowler. He is not a part timer. He is always better than Raina and Rohit Sharma. We can drop any one of these players instead of Sehwag. If India wants to win T20 World cup, Sehwag is needed in Indian Team.

Viru's integrity is in doubt. He may let down team in crucial moments just to bring down Dhoni. Ambition is a deadly monster. It has undone many a cricketers.

Depleted side

Who is Hussey to comment on Sehwag ? Sehwag is an unreliable batsmen and India need to find an alternative to him . He has got too many chances . BCCI should invest its time in searching for fresh faces every 4 years so that it does have enough bench strength to make seniors insecure and take corrective steps to hit form asap .

Anyways they wont go beyond this group leagues as this is a depleted side with only Dhoni and kohli

No need to find a replacement for him, we already have Ajinkya Rahane, why not give him a chance.

A Rahane cannot clear the 30 yard circle with his lofted shots, this is not Ranji trophy or sub-juniors world cup

Agree. Rahane would ahve been a Tendulkar a decade back, but for this breed of flamboyant and inconsistent cricketers, who are not only greedy, but also cover each other, Rahane might not get his dues.

Of course he can clear 100 yards with his timings and not cross batted Sehawg like shorts.

Sehwags, Rainas, Yuvis, Dhonis dominate the world cricket for being flamboyant, and enjoy their status due to mediocrity of current world of cricket standards than a decade back.

whether batsman or a bowler some average to be fixed. If he is less than the average he is auomatically out from the team.
