Bowling attack more important issue
by Nikhil Shah on Mar 22, 2012 06:06 AM

In a culture of batting oriented heroics the Indian team suffers from putting together a decent bowling attack for ODIs and Tests. Batsmen can replaced easyly but good bowlers are hard to come by.

Ajit Wadekar's theory of using a spin trio still hold water for Tests. Back in the 70s the spin trio was world class, bowled slower through the air with flight and extracted pace and bounce from pitches all over the world. As a result Indian bowling managed to stay world class with the spin trio.

Spinners these are flat and quick and hence the spin department as gotten weaker. Dhoni has preferred Ashwin and Ohja who are good finger spinners. In addition the improvement in seam bowling has added a bit more zip.

Test match bowling attack has suffered because of 2 seamers with lack of pace and 2 spinners who are flatter and quicker through air.

With the arrival of Yadav and Varun, Dhoni has not used them properly inspite of being the fastest and his preferences for line-n-length rather than strike bowling has affected the attack where the Indian bowling attack has gone for 500-600 runs in tests.

The story in the 1-dayers is worse, PK, Vinay Kumar and now Irfan have struggled to plant their feet. Unless and until Munaf and Nehra have retired they should have used them and combined them with Vinay and Irfan. Vinay who had an excellent FC record of E/R of 4.4 before playing ODIs and adequate pace of around 137 kph got exposed and should have been shielded out with Nehra and Munaf.

Because of his slow batting India has to await the result of today's match. He should have tried to finish the match in 40 overs.

Kohli was given instructions to slow so that he supports Tendulkar making his 100th Century. Otherwise it might have been Kohli's show and Tendulkar would never made the century.

After this Kohli broke free and played a exploding knock of 183.

No one is blaming bowlers who cant defend 289 against Bangladesh. SriLanka scored 291 in WC final and hoped to win, and here we allowed Banlgadesh to chase 289 and then scared of accepting the truth that we lost coz of bowlers.

There is nothing wrong with his attitude. His pent up tension perhaps gets released in his display of emotion after the hundred. It will mellow in time but his hunger should not.
Been watching him from under 19 days, he will be another of India's great hopefully.
Keep it up Virat. Well done.

Virat, you know how to bat but boy whats wrong with your attitude, abusing and spitting around after you have scored the 100. Grow up man and show some sense and humility like Sachin has all these years and you are not even 10% of what Sachin was and is.

Is this a record ?
by chatter on Mar 20, 2012 12:29 AM

I think this could be the highest score by a batsman chasing in any ODI match. Can't thnk of anyone getting a higher score.

1) Virat -> Stay focused. Keep the hunger (look at some of the seniors like RD, SRT in the team for that). Don't get into chasing personal milestones (avoid one of the seniors on this).
2) Selectors/BCCI -> You've been lucky, but, have a proper plan to groom youngsters and blood more of them into the main team.
3) Fans -> Virat is a good prospect. Value him for winning games for the country. Don't start counting his records and take him to the stars. He deserves applause, but, not fans worshiping him blindly.

After scoring 300 Shewag started bragging about scoring 200 in one days.

in case you forgot to notice Sehwag did score 200. Only the second person in History, and is the person with the highest score in one day international.

I dont know where the people who gave all those galis have disappeared. were you one of them?

I thought he shut all of them with his 200. Apparently NOt...you are still barking.
