Kohli's elevation to create more rift in the team
by Nikhil Shah on Mar 09, 2012 06:36 AM

During the start of the Ganguly ERA the problem with leadership and captaincy was solely transformed from a time of total chaos since India did not win a single overseas Tests in 21 plus years, and hit rock bottom.

But with the arrival of Sehwag, Zaheer and Harbhajan, and adding Laxman to the Fab Four there was a certain transformation. Ganguly had also rounded up Nehra to support Srinath and the teams seems to make a formidable transformation.

Had Ganguly managed to Gambhir, Dhoni and Mishra in the eleven a few years earlier this era was quite formidable.

With the retirement of Srinath, and injuries to Nehra and Zaheer, Ganguly was left with just Irfan Pathan as the only strike bowler in the team.

With a few years of solid leadership, Ganguly had tranformed a rag-tag unit into a formidable unit.

In comes Mr Greg Chappell and when Ganguly hit poor form the team faces a crisis where Chappell decides to restructure. Nobody estimated the on going crisis that was to follow.

The common theme has been, Sehwag, Yuvraj, Harbhajan and now Gambhir on the receiving end. The cycle of building and re-building continues, till Sehwag, Dhoni, Gambhir and Harbhajan manage to win the T20 WC.

After that, the recall and rebuilding starts till there is conflict of interest between Srikkanth's IPL franchise, Dhoni and Raini embroiled with yet another dis-unity where Harbhajan is dropped for Ashwin.

I think, after Srikkanth's tenure as a selector the BCCI needs to act and restore

Kohli must establish himself like the seniors - Ganguly, Dravid, Tendulkar, Sehwag - by scoring a few runs once in ten or fifteen innings.

in promoting Kohli as vicecap as soon as saved a match. They should have waited to see whether that save will retain India in the finals.
His innings helped only him and not India.

wait and watch. Captaincy did not do good to tendulkar otherwise he would not have to wait for his record.

by D S on Mar 06, 2012 03:44 AM

established.......

Mr Dravid

that is the problem woth you cricket
you want to come into a squad and score fw centuries till you are ESTABLISHED
then you cricketers trn moody and score a century when your establishement is at stake

why not that each timne you need to perform and prove yourself rather than get established.

Kohli plays more sensibly than Raina, Sharma or even Sachin, Sehwag and Dravid. Kohli will be the future Indian captain.

No problems if he becomes a captain, but let us not hype 1-2 good performances. Let him concentrate on his batting first. In any case, Dhoni will not retire for 1 more decade.

kohli has just got one series good n he is hyped n elevated to vc. what abt hard work of others like gambhir for his removal from vc!
its too early to make him vc. wait for atleast 3 years then decide.

kohli atleast can claim that he had 1 good series. but others like rohit the much hyped players cant even boast of it, still they r in the side thanx to dhoni.

with due respect to sachin and all his records i still feel that he can and will be easily replaced by a young budding cricketer but a man like rahul dravid with his class and quality will be almost impossible to be replaced in the distant future
