That shows that I am above petty regionalism. I have my favorite team not because of regionalistic reasons. Are you another burnol-overdosed CSK fan?

manchester had something to show the world...but kkr is overhyped cricket club...their achievement should be ignored totally...every year this tamasha will be repeated

This article is wrongly written with misinformation. There were 4 person from bengal in KRR in IPL5. Debabrata Das and Shakib were Bengali by birth and Manoj and Lakshmi were born and brought up in Bengal although originally migrated from outside Bengal.

Tell me which team in IPL won because of the Local Players?? NO TEAM IN IPL WON FOR LOCALS...IPL IS WON BY PLAYERS FROM OTHER STATES AND FOREIGNERS...So why single out KKR?
1. Who were captain of CSK,DC,RR, MI ??
2. Who are Owners of RR,MI?? Were they from same state??Not At All.

So think twice.

KKR only had 20 players. Out of 20 there are Debabrata Das, Laxi Sukla, Monoj tiwari all of them are local players. Swami ahmed is also local. None of the team in IPL 2012 has so many local players.

Rightly said Saunak, And
1. Mr Arvind, I was talking about the playing 11 and regulars not the bench crunchers....
2. And out of these 3 CSK local players only Ashwin was consistent, Vijay and Badri were never consistent but still got chance because of Local Tag.
3. So if you compare Benchers also then there are 1 MORE BENGALI in KKR, just check KKR website - Shami Ahmed.

So understand here that no one cares about bench warmers names before posting.

and how many of them are regulars? ashwin, vijay...thats it...coz even badri gets dropped...compare that to kkr where debi das, tiwari, shukla got selected for almost all matches. joy bhattarcharya is also in kkr management and he is a bengali. but bottomline, for any professional unit to be a success, it should bring best talent from across the country and thats what kkr have done. just imagine csk without dhoni, raina, jakati...they would have failed badly over the years.

media today if full of narrow minded people
by Maihoon Don on Jun 05, 2012 01:32 PM  | Hide replies

do people just need to stay in their city of birth and their ethnic region to be known as the city boys or girls? so many professionals in India are moving around for work. for eg. a boy from hyderabad can move to Mumbai to find work in financial markets, if he stays for 20 years in mumbai and grows his family there, he will be considered mumbai boy. thats how eveolution happens. many people from all around India work in bangalore. so should they not call themselves bangalore boys who have achieved success in their field of work in their adopted city? looks like media is full of people who only work from their own regions and keep small things in their mind whether one is bengali, gujarati, tamilian and so on.

Modern, progressive, success-oriented people do not think like this and they continue on their path to success in whichever city they migrate to.

I think you are missing the bigger point. Understand, SRK and Gautam enjoys and parties with his boys are fine... Have many Kolkatans involved... fine.. But Didi, comes from nowhere and hogs the lime light..

Can't she enjoy? Yes, she can... but the way she was dancing around with SRK... doesn't give much respect to the office she is holding.. She contratulate the team.. fine... But be part of Rs. 6 crore bash... well you have you point of view..

first of all mamta did not dance with srk even on his request. she is aware of her duties as CM. and i am not a mamta supporter at all. what is wrong in having a state CM celebrate a city's triumph? i think we in india are just used to our politicians being stone faced and saying few words to media. mamta is more of a front-on woman who likes to mix well with film or sports personalities. in USA also, presidents go and attend matches etc for liesure alone and not for politics as it happens in india. nothing wrong with it.

Logically u r right. But how many people after migrating to a different state get adopted to the local culture? Many people dont even learn the local language even after staying there for years. And when it come to sports, they cheer team of their state instead of supporting the local team.

that is plain wrong. are you living outside of your state? if so, think about yourself. i have seen so many people not originally maharashtrians who think of mumbai as their home and cheer for mumbai all the time, sometimes fanatically. so many marwaris migrated to chennai, kolkata and can speak local language. i have seen people migrate to bangalore and cheer for RCB. if we decide to just have people play for their regions of ethnicity alone, then why have virat in bangalore, why have valthaty in punjab....lets all go back to out ethnic regions and keep cheering for our ethnic teams...practically, nothing is farther from this. So many people of India are migrated away from their regions of ethnicity and are adopting to their new cities where they have found livelihood.

Some exceptions may be there.
In chennai you can manage if can speak Tamil and only Tamil. Similarly in North India you cannot manage if you dont know hindi. But in Bangalore or hyderabad you can manage even if you dont know kannada or telugu - the local languages.
I have seen in TVs when cricket is being played at Australia or England, Indians keep supporting team India.

Cosmopolitian cities are not restricted to any single culture. Big cities are always formed from the migration of people and their exist multi-cultural people. To live togather its is important to respect each other culture rather being jealous or being envy saying they dont accept the culture.

This is only an Ideal situation and it cannot happen in our country.

why are you so negative? it is a fact that many migrants to mumbai and bangalore or kolkata adopt the new city. they also start speaking local language in next generation. i have also seen many indians follow american sports passionately for their city eg. chicago bulls or LA lakers when they migrate from india to US. of course, affiliation to your native city or town will be there, it is only human. i am a kkr supporter just because of srk. otherwise i have nothing to do with kolkata. i support mumbai in ranji tournament because i like their setup. so different people may have different reasons to support a team. i have seen so many kkr fans even outside kolkata due to being a fan of srk. it was visible during the after match parade of srk through the stadium.

america is the biggest melting pot as they got talent from all across the world instead of worrying about "who is native american and who is not". that is why they are the most powerful country of the world.

READING SUNANDA BABU FOR OVER 50 YEARS
by AK Kumar on Jun 05, 2012 01:29 PM

There are few people who wielded the power of the pen as Sunanda Datta Ray. His razor sharp criticism iterpersed with wit and his masterly sweep over history, politics, current events in one stroke made him an outstanding columnist, a writer. However, for the first time I notice that he has lost his grip and appears to be unsure about the subject he is writing on. Its more about loud thinking or aimless wandering on cricket, the two Bengals, Kolkata, a litte bit of political criticism and so on. It's sad. He appears to have lost grip. I hope Sunanda babu will be back with his blazing, rather raging pen, and keep on enchanting his readers.
