That could well be the only reason to select otherwise a player who is well past his prime longtime back.He carries injuries & will breakdown halfway like in past
It's great to see Irfan get selected for team India. He is by far, a better candidate compared to Vinay Kumar. Actually, I don't quite fathom, how a player like Vinay gets selected for team India. He has not taken wicket in bunches or done anything significant. Team India must try to secure a better candidate for the fast bowler position in future, pehaps, go with Aaron!! Anyway, all the best to India and Irfan.

agreed with your comment but more or less both are the same in terms of performance, like Irfan lost his prime way back, and we never saw Vinay either performing in any match, they selected because we dont have options

I disagree. Irfan has already proved his mettle numerous times in the past, also recently. He gives options, not only with the bowl but also with the bat. A player like Vinay failed to do anything significant for team India or in the previous edition of IPL. He is at best, a club Cricketer. Irfan has talent, but needs to keep playing more matches to keep his rhythm going. Personally, I enjoy watching him, because he plays the game with a lot of passion, just like Paaji Harbhajan.

do you think Irfan/Vinay either compete a international standards, Irfan is more a bats man now a days who can bowl little a bit, i mean as a bowler both are more or less same(club level bowler) yes i agreed that Irfan can bat well as compared to Vinay, but this should not be a criteria of selection, both of them neither a pace of interrnational standards nor movement. i bet you even out galli batsman can hit IRfan/Vinay anywhere in the ground.So for me both are not the best option.
