yes, we should not leave him like that, having the slots vacant, we should him in test again, as he has gone through the various grinds. He should be persisted atleast for a series.
Kaif is indeed a talent unused, Anil Kumble's words need to be respected, selectors being "divine" to Indian Cricket will have their own justification. Balaji also needs a look in to Indian team for T20 based on his performance in IPL which is the premier domestic tournament for T20 cricket.
as a RCB fan it was very disappointing to see kaif when given opportunities could not even time a single ball. it was the worst display of batting i had ever seen. kumble here is very biased. pujara also was selected by kumble for RCB, kumble is sometimes a bad selector. but he did give enough opportunities to vinay kumar in season 1 and 2 of ipl. so sometimes he has vision but in this case he i think is biased.
Kaif got lot of chance but he never utilized. just performing in few games dos't show that he is a good crickter. better to retire and live peacefully.
