Imran Khan's comments
by Manish Dutt on Feb 01, 2012 01:58 PM

We in India, have not learnt to look forward and we always look for past glory. Viv Richards was not great because of the quantum of runs he scored but the way he scored, ie in an aggressive fashion. Something Sachin was also blessed with, but lost it because of hunger for longevity and more runs. I feel its the desire to earn more money which has kept most of Indian greats going. Imran is absolutely correct that Sachin should have retired long ago, and he got this opportunity when India won the World cup.

Time to think out of the box
by Jai Babu on Feb 01, 2012 11:25 AM  | Hide replies

What India ails from is the complacency & play safe methods of Coach Duncan Fletcher, arrogant & uninspired captaincy of Dhoni and most of all-an aging team of stalwarts like Laxman, Dravid, Sachin & Zaheer Khan.

Laxman, great player & team man as he is, should realize that he is well past his USE BY date and retire. Sachin & Dravid may at the max have one more year. Groom promising batsmen like Rohit Sharma, Cheteswar Pujara and maybe even an extended run for Ambati Rayadu & Murli Vijay. Parthiv Patel, Suresh Raina & Yuvraj are NOT Test players Period.

But first things first
1. Sack Duncan Fletcher & Eric Simmons. They are mere passengers
2. Dhoni should no longer be captain of the Test Team. Gautam or Viru could be the better option.

Well said Jai.. I like the way, you had put in your views.

One thing, do you honestly think, Viru is not a passenger and he is still within the BEST BEFORE date?

Who's who of test cricket
by sanjay on Feb 01, 2012 10:35 AM  | Hide replies

Kallis struck 19 centuries while SA won 69 tests he played 25.5 %
Lara struck 8 centuries while Windies won 32 tests he played 25 %
ponting struck 28 centuries while AUS won 99 tests he played 28.3 %
Sachin struck 20 centuries while India won 61 tests he played 32.7 %

So Sachin has contributed more to win to the country he has played
than others

That too playing from oone of weakest bowling side
and one of the worst fielding side in test cricket.Same applies to Dravid.

Hunting in pair or pack and fighting it alone makes lots of difference. That is centuries old trouble

Sanjay.. I already answered you once with REAL useful statistics. Again you are singing your old song dear.

Lemme just jog your memory and re quote why Ganguly considers JACQUES KALLIS as the greatest Player of all times in Test cricket. He rates him higher than Sachin also. See my facts. This may be the reason.

Kallis not only struck so many 100s, he also bowled very well and took 274 wickets for South Africa.

JACQUES KALLIS (RSA)

Tests (Batting):
150 Tests, 254 innings, 12260 runs
Avg. of 57.02, 100s: 41, 50s: 55

Tests (Bowling):
150 Tests, 248 innings, 274 wkts.
4 wkt innings: 7
5 wkt innings: 5

SACHIN TENDULKAR (IND)

Tests (Batting):
188 Tests, 311 innings, 15470 runs
Avg. of 55.44, 100s: 51, 50s: 65

Tests (Bowling):
188 Tests, 139 innings, 45 wkts.
4 wkt innings: 0
5 wkt innings: 0

Average also high and a great bowler with more than 250 wickets too. A true ALL ROUND contributor to his country - a match winner (which ever country it may be). Is that better or someone who will go on playing only BATTING and just play for milestones like 100th hundred, advertisement money etc... and just keep playing forever based on past glory ? Even Ponting scored 2 double centuries in this series. So you see please wake up. Test cricket has many players in the World and INdia also (Sehwag already scored triple hundred also in Tests. Only INdian to do so. The great Sachin has still not scored a 300 in 311 innings.

Sachin averages 53.21 in Australia. So what? That's his past. This time he averaged 35 and hardly made any impact. Same in Eng. So, time to say goodbye.
I can give you great averages of Sunny and Vishy in WI and Aus. Can we recall them on that basis?

Most players on the list above, average just over 35 in their entire career in Eng and Aus. The issue was not that Sachin averaged 35 only in these series. The real issue is that only one of the rest did better than him in both the series. I am not saying that Sachin should not retire now. This should be his last series since he has nothing to prove. The fact remains that he is the most well rounded player that has performed well throughout the world. The records for these players would look even more lopsided if Sanjay had included their exploits in India.

by teju sagar on Feb 01, 2012 08:40 AM

I dont think he should have quit after WC as i would have rated him as a coward who was scare to face the ball in fear of losing a few odd matches.. come on guys he is not gona die if we lost this series.. these bunch of guys has given us a lot of victory and if you ppl look at the scores and perfomance than its these seniors because of whom we have been able to get those runs above 100 as a team.. sure there is a time for everyone to leave but it should not e forced and unrespectable towards those who have atleast given india certain pride against the world who did not consider india as nothing.. for EG Big B Sachin, SRK, Sania, Anand and many more to name from north to east and west to south because of whom india is known as well apart of business leaders and politics... dont be harsh to them
