Turn around expert

Fletcher was England coach, credited with turning around their fortunes from ranking 7 to ranking 1. However in our case we handed him a team which was ranking 1, so turned it around. Now wiat till we go to ranking 7 and then he will bring changes to make it ranking 1 team.

Earn your place in Indian team......
by krishnakumar iyer on Jan 31, 2012 10:13 AM  | Hide replies

hey guys i find it very hard to believe that we are asking seniors like rahul, vvs to retire. but my point is why should they retire? they have been the most consistent performer for india for more than a decade. we need to remember of all centuries dravid scored india lost only 4 times. More in the rush to blood youngster in the team we are forgetting the basic fact that they need to earn their place. Let all of us see how many ranji matches did seniors play before getting selected in Indian team and waht was their average. to how many test matches did these youngster play. the point is today i feel it is easier to get in the team compared to the time when dada, dravid or vvs made their debut. dada retired in some 2006 and yet we have not found a fix no 6 in the team. I still feel the young generation should challenge the seniors for the place by performance and not becase they are young... We need to respect the contribution every single guy has made. They will retire but i feel before they do we need to find a back which is atleast good as them. But i feel todays generation are still a long way to go to fill the shoes of these greats. i hope i made some sense.

There is no point in changing captain or players(exept under performing like vvs or RDravid. Change the coach, he is not supposed to sit quitely and watch the fun and blame the players like chapael did.

What is the role of a coach?
by Face Dude on Jan 31, 2012 07:32 AM  | Hide replies

Practically nothing.

Frankly, I dont understand what a coach can do under the circumstances..

1) Fletcher does not have the right to choose the players.
2) He has not spent enough time with the team to get to know the psychology of each closely

3) He is not there to teach batting or bowling techniques. We have cricketers in the team (atleast 8 of them) who have played more number of tests and more ODI's than Fletcher

4) Coach may not decide or take on match calls on behalf of the captain,

Honestly, if the team performs then the coach is seen in good light, if it fails (due to inherent problems and issues ) then the coach is blamed.

I dont see a reason in Ganguly blaming the Indian coach for the debacle. Or he should clarify in which areas the coach failed secifically.

I think there is a serious lack of form or potential with the indian team that is the cause for this failure.. there is probably no lack of strategy or direction.. given the following cricket has with so many heavyweights throwing their might to provide suggestions / comments, there is certainly no dearth of plans or strategy.

The players experienced enough and they dont require special coaching.

Dude, a coach needs to manage a team and look into the resources. If the bowling is found lacking, he needs to put the bowlers to practice. Same with batting. The coach needs to identify weaknesses of the batsmen and make them come over the same. If u observed, Dravid approached Dounghnut Fletcher for footwork related problems. He could have approached Sachin/Laxman considering "seniority". But it is the coach's job to do all this. Again, decisions like change of batting order, etc need to be addressed by the coach. He should be assiting the captain like how Kirsten did and not munching 24/7 in the pavilion.
The trend we see now is, during wins the captain/ONE SOLE PLAYER is hailed responsible. During losses, the coach is blamed. Thats Indian mentality!!

The Real shame is Slave residual mentality
by Raj on Jan 31, 2012 03:19 AM

If reports are correct and this FIRANGI coach is to get Rs 2 crore for a shambolic show, then the real shame is that guys like Gavaskar still seem to be at odds with BCCI to have his contractual payment of Rs 1 crore per year still sanctioned. The board is remotely controlled by the Goras or the lamenting directors of BCCI are still suffering from residual slave mentality. Boycott the firangis and have a pledge NEVER to have an australian or England coach. Duncan fletcher has been the real curse and the downfall of the team has come by since he has taken charge - Get rid of this MOLE As Soon As Possible and give him a one way ticket to his native land.
